View Full Version : Anyone with a HR-05 SLI/IFX? Weird question :D

Hello all,

After my MOSFET burned on my motherboard Im at least looking around for aftermarket NB, SB and MOSFET cooling, and maybe another motherboard but that's off topic. Im a big fan of Thermalright for some reason, but the lay-out on AM2 motherboards is a bit poor to say the least.

It looks like I can fit HR-09 Type 3 and a HR-05 IFX without issues, but the NB is a bit of a problem.

A quick google of my board (http://www.dm.ro/poze_prod/componente/componente-pc/placi-de-baza/dflpdk790fxbm2rs/dfi-lanparty-dk-790fxb-m2rs_3.jpg).
The NB is located near the CPU socket. Im either thinking of installing my TRUE with a modified S-clip or a IFX-14, so a HR-05 IFX is a no go on the NB.

Now the HR-05 SLI/IFX might fit, but with the heat sink hanging above the top PCI-e slot. Nice theory, but how 'fast' do these heatpipes rise? There's only like 1cm room between the edge of the NB heat sink and the top PCI-e slot, if the heatpipes of the HR-05 SLI/IFX do not move up soon enough it's like impossible to get that working.

So does anyone have this HR-05 SLI/IFX, able to measure how much the heatpipes rise 1cm out of the block you fit on your motherboard? Eventually a picture if possible?

Thx in advance!

Hey Ramm, i don't know if you can make this from the following photos :

There is no actual rise at 1cm from the plate, hpipes full vertical @ ~2cm...+the other end of the hpipes (passing through the base plate ),

may be obstructed by the capacitors located between the NB and the cpu socket (see 1st photo for detail)

Hope i helped, if you need any other measurement either from this or from non-SLI version please feel free to ask...

Whoa, thanks for such a fast and good reply:up:

Seems like it ain't going to fit. However, I decided to take a look on the M2RSH (http://img1.abload.de/img/dfi_lanparty_jr_790ga39.jpg) version of my board. The top NB heatsink seems to be removable without removing the heatpipe system. I might be able to install the HR-05 SLI/IF on top of it:rolleyes:

Problem is Ill be stuck with the stock MOSFET cooling, although this seems to be already better than that stupid aluminium block Ive on my board. Ill just drop some AS5 on it then.

PS, that picture ain't the board, just used to show what I meant regarding the heatpipe system.

Yeap, i know the board...

I didn't exactly get why the non-sli cannot fit...

As a "plan B" , since i have been reading your oc results with your r.i.p. 9950 (sorry), i think you can avoid a future burnt mosfet by the adequate cooling of a complete w/c setup...

This was also my plan...i am between the non-H dfi and the M3A79-T...

I think the non-SLI wont fit because there wont be much room left because of the TRUE/IFX-14. The heat sink will hang over the NB:(

I'd like to get watercooling but to be honest, I would mess it all up I guess. If installing goes well, then I would :banana::banana::banana: up with maintenance etc. Im really lazy when it comes to maintenance:p:

Heheh...

You can divide by 2 the overall width of the TRUE/IFX 14 and measure from the center of the cpu socket to see how much space will be left...you can also install the HR-05/SLI with the heatsink facing the back of your case (vertical to the pci-e)...since you have the basic dimensions you can measure if it fits that way...

Or else...you will have to get un-lazy and mess with water! :D (just kiddin')

Already tried having the heat sink facing to the back but it wouldnt fit either. Very close though! Maybe with the H version there's a possibility. Will order the board today I think and will see what happens:D

Ok, if you need anything else from dimensions saya...
