So the other thread seems to mostly be about pencil modding the 4850 and I found it a bit difficult to look through all the pages for 4870 info.

Who here has vmodded their 4870? Which brand/model? What clocks have you achieved under how much voltage and which cooling?

I've just bought a 4870 to move from my pencil modded 4850 and am hoping to get at least "as good" clocks as the 4850 which got me 880mhz at only 1.39V

"The other" thread have lots of info on modding the 4870 as well. I know its a big thread, but its only 50 pages and you could ctrl+F every page for "4870". Wont take that long to find what you are looking for :)

A short summary: You cannot pencilmod the 4870's GPU (not the reference card anyway), because resistance to ground is really really small.

Hard modding for reference card is well described but make sure you have the same circuits, or other resistances will apply and you might ruin your card.

You could also search w1zzard's posts.
