Because cold days/nights are here, I had some happy times with my E8600 under water OC:D
E8600 Q820A606
Gigabyte UD3P motherboard
Cellshock 1000 cl4 rams
Water cooling (radiators were outside, on cold air)
As first: Resaults aren't for best SuperPI time, but just for max frequency.
I started with 1.568V and got to 5150mhz for SuperPI 1M
http://shrani.si/t/3z/k8/1tDp6idN/5150-pod-vodo.jpg (http://shrani.si/?3z/k8/1tDp6idN/5150-pod-vodo.jpg)
Then I went for higher voltage (Motherboard has some BIOS bug, because one level higher CPU voltage, has give me almost 0.08V more voltage) so i bench on 1.648V
http://shrani.si/t/3u/XE/1GxO8U98/5178.jpg (http://shrani.si/?3u/XE/1GxO8U98/5178.jpg) http://shrani.si/t/h/On/3LlhNiP7/5200-pod-vodo.jpg (http://shrani.si/?h/On/3LlhNiP7/5200-pod-vodo.jpg)
Temparature of water was about 1-2C, air outside had about -2C.

Good job:D
But water temperature was 1-2. You can do more. Keep pushing chip.

Nice OC! Tweak those pi runs!
I was able to take my 8600 to 5013Mhz for 3dmark vantage runs, using 1.59v (1M topped out at 5050Mhz). Using dryer tube ducting bringing in cold air from outside (with a 240CFM Delta)

Nice OC! Tweak those pi runs!
My point wasnt the best time, but only frequency.
Best efficiency that I got on this motherboard was about 45250, but its a bit weird- only one time- after bios reset I could get to only 46300??
You can do more. Keep pushing chip.
Probably only few mhz more, but I will try again (more antifriz and few C less:D)

Hi, That i great, i will be setting up my PC's this week, I also have the UD3P and a E8600 and Q9650
I am in CT and we are getting some nice low temps too.
I am going to put 2 rads right out side the window with a Bucket half full of antifreeze, I will have them on a separate loop with a Copper top GTX and D4 pump for some cold water fun.
Thanks for posting your settings, that will give me a good start with the E8600.
The Q9650 I already had @ 4.86Ghz @ 1.55v on air :surf: with a Xig direct touch, so I am hoping for some quad action @ >5GHz if i am lucky.
Nice work
Real nice Super Pi's
Is there any issues with putting 2 radiators in a bucket 1/2 full with antifreeze, This is all a first for me, so I was wondering what to look out for.

Nice benching... Now when you maxed out CPU on water go to something more extreme if you can. And lets do some serious 1M time now ;)

I am pretty happy with my 8600 also. This is on water with the chip on its own loop. Aquamark3 was at 5G:D

If you will put your radiators into antifrize you will have some problems:
First: If will be antifreeze below -10C(or something like that) water in radiators MAY freeze, and damage the radiators,
Second:You'r temparatures won't be so good if you won't mix the antifreze or in whatewer liquid are you goint go have radiators...

So which E8600 batch is better ... ? Q820Axxx or Q822Axxx ?
From what I've seen so far, Q820Axxx is better @ air or water, but doesn't perform well on subzero temps ... enters Q822Axxx, which is great on subzero temps ...
Am I correct ?
quake6
12-01-2008, 01:29 PM
Yeap,as far as I known q822 is a better on subzero...
q822a435 seems to be the sweet stepping - I never saw so many good E8600 with one specific stepping again. also all q822a435 seem to love cold. I know a bunch of chips doing -150°C idle and good clockspeeds. my one is not too bad either and over at AF the best results in our team where all done with this stepping.

12-01-2008, 01:47 PM
Hmmm, so I was correct :) The moment I buy an E8400 Q832Axxx (E0 stepping of course), I'm gonna start looking for a nice Q822Axxx E8600 (I need one good under cold, for some 3D benchmarking) ... In spite of the Q822Axxx you know some other "cold-friendly" E8600 batch ? First priority is temperature, then finding a nice chip ;)

My chip is a 820A324 1.26vid which seems to run a little cooler then the lower vid EOs from what I have seen. I have not tried a 822 yet but this chip was an easy 5G on water with this P5K Prem. I think me needs Phase for this chip.

Thanks a thousand times for the information on Q820A324 flesheatinvirus. The latest E8400 batch though, has a lot of examples that can do ~5GHz on air 1M ... What benchmarks could you run with your E8600 @ 5GHz ?

So far I have just done the Pi thing, Aquamark3 and Futuremarks 3DM01SE- 03- 05- 06 and Cinebench R10 all of which ran no problem at 5G, Cinebench R10 was about 11G. I will run more benchmarks and post the results. PD on this chip was 07/17/08 and its on its own PA 120.3 loop in pull with a Dtek Fuzion block. No Prime or Orthos just yet as I want to play. Soon this chip is getting a P5Q Deluxe and today I just got in my EVGA 280GTX with a EK nickel block to replace this 8800 Ultra which is certainly not pushin Brown just yet. I also have an older 745A576 CO 8400 that runs 4900 but these new EO 8600 chips are faster with less Vcore, they are the shad for the money right now. Here is 3DM06. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=8995163:D

3D Mark 06 @ 5070MHz on water is :woot: :D
Nice chip my friend ;)
I'll go for two E8600s then ... :p Q820 for low clock challenges, and Q822 for real benching :yepp: :D I've already forgot about that Q832 E8400 :p:

Had mine at 5200mhz yesterday on water as well. Got to love it!!! Vcore was roughly at 1.62v at idle though, still pretty good to me. Didn't have time to run any tests but will tonight.

E8600, one of the best Intel Chip. Overclocking easily up to 5.2GHz/S-Pi under stock fan + cold air
(10°C-15°C cold air with a good fan is more efficient than water cooling, tested!)
