i have an evotec 400w PSU.
im currently using it to power my system with:
-xp 1700+
-nf7-s
-2xgeil pc3500 256mb
-40gb diamondmax
-LG cdrom
-JVC cdrw
-albatron gffx 5600 turbo

i cant find this PSU ANYWHERE on the internet, im guessing it's just relabelled. it's aluminum and looks pretty cool. The 12v line puts out 25A, so im assuming this is enough for a 226w pelt, but the problem is, will it be able to power my current system + a 226w pelt :)

thanks in advance.

Nope, that will not be able to power the TEC and your computer.
The Tec itself will draw about 18A or so.
You will have to get a dedicated PS for it.

Unfortunately that's true... Get another one of those and you'll be able to power 226 and 80watt modules at the same time if you happen to TEC your GPU or NB in the future :)

in that case, i may just put this PSU to a dedicated tec/fan PSU, and get a 350w for the other stuff.

now the question is, will it be able to handle a 226w tec and possibly an 80w in the future?

or, just the 226w.

A 226W TEC actually draws 25 amps off the 12V line so if you use your 400W evotec you'll have no juice left for the 80W TEC.

Another thing to keep in mind is those readings on computer power supplies are peak values not sustained. I doubt any computer PSU other then perhaps PC Power & Cooling's 510 Turbo cool could deliver 25 amps sustained for a long time.

Look at my sig, ALL of it except from MCW50-T runs from one Enermax 465 series 431watt PSU and it's doing very well indeed :)

A 226w tec actually draws somewhere between 15amps and 18amps off the 12v line, depending on hotside conditions (as jabo knows now ;))

But your right about the peak and sustained currents, and also running a tec off the 12v line with no 5v load will destroy the psu in short order anyway since its a smps with joint lines.

Jabo be good boi now

;) :p: :p: :D

What is it about joint lines? Didn't get that one ...

My remaining MCW50-T and around 30 watts of fans run from 300watt Chieftec PSU which stresses 12v line quie well and there's no other voltage used... - works fine as far as now...

Good PSus have susained and peak amps ratings, ones that don't... avoid :)
