I'm all giddy! lol. Anyway, while at work today (Best Buy) I happened to check on the current status of the 9800xt... Our warehouse has over 100 of em! That means I should have one within a week or two! Mmmm, 9800xt, $500 minus discount... minus the $220 I'm getting for my 9700Pro.... Not to mention my Max3 and 3.0c chip are due in tomorrow... Then perhaps I'll order a matching pair of mushkin 512 3500 level 2 chips for a total of 2gigs of memory.... mmmmmm........ Gaming deliciousness....

How many of those can you buy on your discount?
;)
Svenn
10-16-2003, 06:54 PM
Just one, eheh. Like I tell everyone else... the reason I was hired is because the people before me were fired for giving out discounts...
Actually, I'm not even sure what the discount is, we can't get it til mid november... and it's not a set price, it's 10% over cost. I'm gonna have to pay $500 for it initially and when the discount kicks in, take the receipt back to get the discount.

Fellow BB here, discount kicked in the 12th. I get 5% over cost. Sure you aren't confused.

Still that sounds like quite a nice perk, and I'm sure that you deserve it based on some of the customers you have to deal with (or at least some of the ones that I have seen).
And it sounds like an awesome computer you are putting together. Let us know how it turns out.

is it 5%? I thought it was 10%... Anyway, the 9800XT discount kicked in? You sure? What's the cost? I know that RSS comments says no discount until mid-november....

I dunno, little girl just sounded good at the time, lol. No I'm not female....
Anyway, current rig is in my sig, 2400+ on nf7-s rev2 w/ 9700Pro, 1gb corsair xms 3500... Not bad at all, but 20k 3dmarks isn't enough anymore... Besides, this monitor can do 109Hz at 1600x1200! The 9700Pro specs state it will only do 85Hz at 1600x1200...
And for those who lack money to build comps... work for best buy. The pay isn't that great, but the discount is cool (though on most computer related items you can get em cheaper from newegg). The big thing is the other benefits.... www.cyberscholar.com... I won $200 cash, Macromedia Studio MX (which I sold for $400), and a Netgear Wireless Network setup which included wireless router, wireless pcmcia card, and wireless usb adapter. Then, intel (and soon AMD too) do special deals everywhere so that you get high end parts (this year, 3.0 processor, crap intel motherboard, and winxp pro) for somewhere in the $150-200 range ($200 for this year... that's how I'm affording this rig)... AMD is supposedly doing something similar with a 3000+ processor soon, I can't wait to jump on that :)

I'm going to try and be more understanding than most of the others have N00B pro... 25k is very doable with the setup I'm getting and in fact, I'd be disappointed if I didn't break 25k. Take a look at the orb and browse around some... You'll notice that 20k is nothing, and 25k is beginning to fade out too.... Supercooling can give some incredible clock speeds which in return gives incredible 3dmark scores... A good 3.0 chip with phase change cooling should be able to reach over 4Ghz easy... And a good 9800pro/hopefully xt with TEC cooling should be able to reach incredible speeds as well.
I'm assuming you are fairly new to overclocking and I'll just say that you've got a lot to learn. To quote JBell, welcome to the sickness.

I hear working for Best Buy can be good. Since its non-union, you can work hard and advance rapidly. But I scan groceries for $20 dollars an hour, well I don't even scan them. I'm incharge of the people that scan them. I mostly just work on displays and make sure the others are still scanning them.=). I could get in truble if I miss my break though. NOOB Pro,
It's not even enough to go out and buy the best high end stuff. You have to spend the time and effort to learn how to set it up for max performance. That is why the scores posted by many members here seem impossible, those posting them know how to tune a system.
One of the things I like most here is that everyone is willing to help each other. Give yourself a chance and the members here will help you. Continue being rude and you'll be gone instead.

As I'd really prefer to see you get it together and stay, and learn, instead of getting yourself banned.
Pretty clear that you found Svenn's score hard to believe. What you could have done, and should have, is ask questions in a polite manner of Svenn. Then you'd gain information and learn how to do it yourself, at least within your systems limits.
Svenn, that's a really high score for a XP2400, would you share how you did it? This would be a first qestion toward learning for yourself how to do it. What his RAM timings were and at what FSB and volts needed. What tweaks he used on his OS to increase his score, and which OS he'd used.

Work part time, few hours a week... It's well worth the outside benefits... Like I said, the actual job ain't worth a crap, but cyberscholar and employee purchase programs from manufacturers rock. Try things like $300 printers for under $150... $800 processor/cpu bundles for $200... Free X-box games from microsoft. Free PC games and software from microsoft... Heh. I only make like $6k year from the job, but with the discount on certain things at BB, and the employee purchase programs and things I sure save a hell of a lot. If it wasn't for all that, I'd have left a long time ago. The discount in store isn't even that good on some things, but cables it's awesome. For example, we sell usb cables, networking cables, etc for up to and over $100... (We have a do it yourself networking kit, 250', for $100) Employee discount on the $100 networking kit brings it down to $15... Most other cables are $1-5, eheh. And monster cables come WAY down to reasonable levels. I buy monster cables for everything now because it's less than regular price of a regular cable.
Oh, and as for N00B pro... He just needs to learn. I got nothing wrong with him, he's just very uneducated. If he's not willing to learn though, then it's a shame.
Alright, I gotta head to school, just checked my tracking numbers and my 3.0 and Max3 are out for delivery! W00t! Hopefully tomorrow I'll have some early results :) I can't wait for the 9800xt though.

I personally think this n00b guy is pissed that he can't get the OCs and scores that some of you can.
What he and other fail to realize is that much hardware and trial and error is done to acheive this, and it's not always pretty.
If you only have one system and a limited budget, you'd be stupid to voltmod everything and maxx it out (unless you REALLY know what you're doing). But you also won't EVER get a really high OC or score if you're timid.
Thus some need to realize that the REAL Pros have both the time and the money to push it out, and if we can't afford to run with the big-dogs, we have no right to b|tch about it.
Just shut you're yap...sit back...and learn from the data they provide us with.

Are you all telling me that getting 20k 3d marks is possible with 2400xp and 9700pro as stock configuration????? I'm not sure if he's just posting his stock components which he after overclocked then getting 20k is understandable. But i still don't believe you can get 20k on a 2400xp and 9700pro as stock. And if you do , with all do respect, I deeply feel sorry for you.

I see where the misunderstanding is N00B. No, that is not stock... generally though, when you state your components in an overclocking forum, the scores you give are overclocked scores. Most people will actually go out of their way to say stock and not overclocked. So in the future, if the score seems outrageous for stock speeds, then consider it an overclocked score, or simply ask if that's stock if you aren't sure. My best advice to you is to browse through the forums for a while reading old posts and things so you can get a feel for how things work here, then you won't get so many people mad at you...

Svenn you will get 25k for sure with that setup, as long as your 3.0c isn't §§§§. My 3.0c needed 1.8v to get over 260fsb and it was not too stable....even on mach2. From what I have read, the 3.0c's seem to need alot of juice. How much faster are the xt's going that the 9800pro's? Is the overclocking top end high enough to warrant the price difference?
