if it is the 222 stuff, the 3500 is bh5 and you should buy it
the 232 is ch-5 and sucks
the 3200 kingston would be my other choice

My Khx 3500 spd is 2.3.3.7 but I can run it at about 235-240mhz 2.2.2.5 with 3.2v on them on my MAX3. That's with an old 2.8b and 4-5 fsb-mem. I cannot push them to their limits with my 2.8c and 5-4 2.2.2.5

The thing is if you want the good HyperX, you need to get KHX3200, and not KHX3200A. The one with the A in it is cheaper and is CH5 (2-3-2-5). It must just be cheaper for them to produce.

If you want performance, everyone is saying go with BH-5 chips. It's as simple as that.
If you want to know what comes with BH-5 chips, it's a little more complicated. Only Mushkin Level 2 offers a promise for continued assembly of BH-5 memroy in their Black Level 2 PC3200/PC3500. Buffalo and Kingston are still shipping modules that have been known to come only with BH-5 in the past. And there are others out there where there's a risk of getting differant chips each time you purchase memory.
For those that are shipping BH-5, here is the 'pricelist'
Muskin Black Level 2:
1x512MB PC3200 - $139 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-146-284) - www.newegg.com *
2x256MB PC3200 - $146 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-146-283) - www.newegg.com *
2x512MB PC3200 - $278 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-146-284) - www.newegg.com *
1x512MB PC3500 - $148 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-146-296) - www.newegg.com *
2x256MB PC3500 - $174 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-146-291) - www.newegg.com *
2x512MB PC3500 - $289 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-146-292) - www.newegg.com *
Buffalo PC3700:
1x256MB - $59 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-150-565) - www.newegg.com
1x512MB - $103 (http://www.pricewatch.com/s/b.asp?d=4068848) - www.newegg.com (ETA 10/31/03)
Kingston HyperX (2-2-2)-series:
2x256MB PC3000 - $122 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-144-123) - www.newegg.com
2x512MB PC3000 - $230 (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=20-144-124) - www.newegg.com
1x512MB PC3200 - $124 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-9) - www.zipzoomfly.com *
2x256MB PC3200 - $133 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80092-9) - www.zipzoomfly.com *
2x512MB PC3200 - $265 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-22) - www.zipzoomfly.com *
All current HyperX 3500 and XMS 3500 are using CH-5 chips. CH-5 chips are currently in production in Taiwan by Winbond, BH-5 chips are not.

ok so now i understand . best performance = BH5 , BH5 = Mushkin black lvl2 only ???? just wanna know if u can get bh5 on khx 3200 or 3500
(and the guy will maybe let me open the box , but i dont know if i can remove heatsink on ram to chek chips )
so my point of view =
Mushkin black lvl 2 = BH5 chips 100% ????
KHX 3200 = BH5 or CH5 ... 50/50% ????
KHX 3500 = NO chance of getting BH5 , all samsung ??
tell me if im right or not
oh yeah and i forgot corsair.... i can only get corsair twinx 3200 or 3700 here .... is any of them good ?

On a strictly price to performance basis, seems like the buffalo pc3700 would be the best, I've never heard of anyone NOT getting BH5 on those.

The shipping would cost a lot to get to Canada anyway.

All the memory I linked to in that little pricelist has been known 'only' to have BH-5 chips.
Mushkin Black Level 2 PC3200/PC3500 - Promises Only BH-5 Chips
Buffalo PC3700 - Known Only BH-5 Chips (meaning noone has received CH-5 chips, known at least)
Kingston HyperX is a little bit complicated.
Kingston HyperX 3000 is known to ship only with BH-5 chips. Just b/c it's rated at PC3000 is meaningless (except for the fact that BY SPD recognizes it for PC3000 - which can cause conflict running 1:1 on A64 applications). It has BH-5 chips which are the chips to get.
Kingston HyperX 3200 comes in TWO differant 'flavors'. The older NON-A HyperX 3200 (rated 2-2-2) uses Winbond BH-5 chips and is still selling, albeit at a higher price then KHX3200A (rated 2-3-2). The KHX3200A uses CH-5 chips.
If you go to a store in Quebec, first check if it has Kingston HyperX 3200. If it does, then check the label code on it.
For Example, if your checking Kingston HyperX 3200 512MB Kit (2x256MB) if the label code says this (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=20-144-113-01.JPG) then it is A HyperX (rated at 2-3-2) and use CH-5 chips. - not so good
If the label code say this (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=20-144-125-01.JPG) then it is NON-A (rated 2-2-2) memory and should use BH-5 chips.

if i got money ill get mushkins 3500 black lvl 2 :)
but what about khx3500 chips , u didnt say :)
Speed_Mechanic

As far as I know, ALL KHX3500 memory uses WinBond CH-5 chips.

i think i made my choice
i just realized on the site they say if its bh5 or ch5 lol -.-
KHX3200 512MB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2 (2-2-2-6-1) DIMM (Kit of 2) 233.95 $
KHX3200A 512MB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2 (2-3-2-6-1) DIMM (Kit of 2) 199.95 $
hehe ill go with the khx3200 not A , thats like 130$US (for u us resident )
anyone saying my choice sux ? wanna be sure ;p if i make right choice
Speed_Mechanic
10-18-2003, 11:10 AM
The prices are kinda high at that specific shop. $230 $CAD is about $USD $175. If there's any cheaper store that has NON-A, then the memory itself it top notch, just watch the price.
NesQuiK
10-18-2003, 11:15 AM
yeah true , but isnt the dollar canadian 1,76 ??? 135*1.76=230 ...
but the other stores doesnt say if its kingston A , but they are like 20 dollar cheaper... so they are probably A ..

To have a performance gain worth noticing, you gotta first sell your CH-5 for alot, then when you get your BH-5 memory, you gotta pump it with 3.2V. Then you might just make up for the loss of $, unless you sell your CH-5 for alot.

2x512MB 400MHz 2-3-2 KHX3200AK2/1G 1 now £194.00
okay, this is what i see listed, i guess the 400Mhz, which is deffo not the A kit which is listed further down, is teh bh-5, has the 3500 got any chance of being bh-5 if its rated at 2,2,2 aswell? i'm fine with paying more to be sure, its only a few quid anyway. Though, would i be losing anything going for the pc3000, should be bh-5 aswell right? there isn't much diff in price, but it all adds up.
Can also get the 400Mhz, non a version in single 512 sticks now, 5 in stock, i've never believed there to be anything diff between dual packs, and non dual packs, anyone think there is?
