I fancy a monitor upgrade and thought why not a projector :P Ive got a wall big enough xP (Would the wall need to be pure white? xD)

I was thinking would there be ALOT of image loss or would it still look great as it is on my monitor at the moment? Also how much would a fairly decent one set me back?

Define fairly decent, to match any for of resolution you currently game at your looking at $800 minimum for a good 720p, a 640x480 can be had for much cheper but your image quaility while massive won't be neraly as refined as say a 20" lcd at 1600x1200

as for the wall buy a white bedsheet, smooth it out and tack it to your wall in desired location. projectors are fun to use but 1) make a lot of heat, usually noisy 2) bulbs are expensive and if you use your pc as much as i do you'll probably run yours down quickly compared to normal useage 3) if its your sole monitor or viewing source it can be a pain to just do a quick use of your pc since your projector will have to turn on/warm up then display the image

don't get me wrong they are plenty of fun to have but more in the media aspect of a huge movie display or for consoles/group activity/games (ie you and your friends all using the same screen which doesn't happen often in the PC world)

A high resolution projector can be extremely expensive. Like as much as the rest of your PC. Like ~5 grand. Bulbs can also be several hundred dollars. If you are not looking to spend a lot of money a projector is not the way to go. If you are going to buy one a bedsheet is definitely the best/cheapest surface you can get. Good luck, and make sure you do your research!

If you have a dark enough room and good enough screen you wont lose almost any image quality and if you are looking for a cheap 1080p projector I would go with the Sanyo PLV-Z2000, I have seen it between $1500-$2000.

You can build a projector out of an LCD... ;)

2560x1600 30" would make a killer base to work from.

i have seen projectors that have a res of 1900x1200 on newegg for around $1000 USD that are 720p and have hdmi... the only thing i would be concerned about is input lag as i dont know what it would be like for a projector?

I've got a rich friend who rigged an HD projector in his room. He'd do everything on it. Surf the web, play video games, watch tv. It was insane watching the Discovery Channel HD one minute and then be playing UT the next the size of the wall. AWESOME if you can afford it!

Go with a light silver satin bed sheet if you can afford it. Much nicer picture quality than a white bed sheet. I have a projector and have tried both.

yeh because a projector can't sow black so gray makes the dark colours more distinguishable
