xfx + gtx280 problem with pcie

Help guys, cant seem to get the gtx280 from gainward at full speed on my xfx 780i, im stuck at this speed - pcie@x1
I have ruled out the psu and gtx280 as they work fine on a intel d975xbx2!!
any help much appreciated, the board is brand new and is running 2gb dominator extreme 8500 @ 1066, i also tried to run this mem @ 800 but gtx280 is stil stuck at pcie x1. The motherboard is brand new.
****edit* i have just upgraded to the latest bios and there is no change, still stuck @ x1***

I just popped down to my local store and bought a pcie 7200gs and popped it in the 780i, it works fine and speed works fine @x16 so why doesnt the gtx280... Help me please, im gutted, how long does a rma take in europe ?

If another card works fine in this board and that card works fine in another system than it should just be drivers causing it to run at x1. Try Driver Sweeper in safe mode to clean out the drivers and then the 178.24 drivers.
