Hi,
I built a computer for a friend,
e8200, 4850 512mb, 2gb PC6400 OCZ Platinum, Corsair HX620, antec 900, AF7 etc...
And, when I run 3dmark06, the GPU scores seem low compared to others, My overall score, with the CPU at 3.6, was 12300, or a little over/under.....
so I presumed they were overclocked, and so i got rivatuner, but it says it wont work with my 4850?
Says that the drivers are not supported, and it doesnt recognise the stoc speeds correctly either.
Also, when I try to run it at 4GHz, it crashes at some point suring the CPU test 1 or 2, and i know its not due to temp, as it doesnt break 50, and i tried increasing the voltage to RAM, NB, FSB, CPU, all of them, and it still crashed, and, even with those increased voltages, I cannot get anything higher than 4GHz to load into windows, boot easily, but not windows,
My volts are, roughly,
cpu: 1.28, or 1.296
RAM 2.128 or 2.176
FSB 3.1ish
NB 3.1ish, i think......
Sorry i went off topic a little..........

Any help?
Thanks

1. Look into overclocking the E8200. You're doing it wrong. Far too little voltage. Put in at least 1.4v for the CPU. 3.1v for the NB must be a typo. It would fry at 3.1v. What is this FSB voltage? You mean VTT? If so that's too high. It would fry at 3.1v.

2. Driver issue eh? Sounds like you're running an x64 system. Vista needs to be in Test mode to use RivaTuner & ATi Tray Tool. You don't need an x64 system with 2GB of ram. Go back to 32-bit and you avoid this altogether. And you get less overhead since 64-bit apps and systems use slightly more memory by design.

To overclock the HD 4850, you'll need to download the AMD GPU Clock Tool or use the Overdrive section inside Catalyst Control Center. I would suggest hitting the AutoTune button first because it will pump up the voltage to the RAM and GPU a little to allow for better overclocking. Mine is at 750/1176 with a DuOrb on it and it rocks.

I'm not really knowledgeable about overclocking Intel processors so I can't give any advice there but the 4850 I've got lots of info :D Also, what brand 4850 did you get him? For extreme overclocking on the 4850, I would suggest a pencil mod. A guy has his a 850/1300 with a pencil mod.

You will still need the ATI Tray Tool for artifact testing.
