yes it does - more stop'n'start stress on the motor = not good

cool, i only ask as two of my drives arent used as frequently as the rest and i wondered wether it would affect them to have them power down when not being used only to be powewred up again 15, 30, 45, an hour later.

If you want to do it that way, get an enclosure and put it there so you can plug it in when needed and unplug it when not needed.
