Good evening gentleman. Want to once again thank everyone here who has helped me get my new system up and running. It was biatch of a re-learning curve........and I'm not done yet. But I am at least up and running.

I came from watercooling, and I am used to a very silent operating computer.
I am now running a Q6600 B3 GO on a P5Q-Pro Board. (currently stock cooler)

I'm at 3 ghz now but want to go higher. (3.5 ghz 24/7 is what I'm shooting for) . I need recomendations. Is there such a thing as performance plus silence? The side of my case is removed, and most likely always will be. The inside of my house stays between 65 and 75 degrees.

Please give me a couple of good ones for my needs. I can't stand PC noise. My buddies computer sounds like a god danged helicopter when he fires his up. <shudders>

A 3.5GHz 65nm quad is hot, and to cool it with very low noise, you will need to start with the best possible heatsink. That would be the TRUEcu. Since they are heavy and expensive, you will probably go for the 2nd or 3rd best ones. I don't really know if the regular TRUE is the 2nd best these days, but I can say it is good. If you go with it, then you can go with two Panaflo's 120x38 ultra quite 70CMF / 30dB on push/pull. Then you can lap your cpu, lap your TRUE (if you decide to go with it), do the washer mod, mount it vertically and use AS5 as your thermal paste.

That would probably be one of the best ways to cool a 3.5GHz 65nm quad, with respectable low noise rates. If 30dB on a 120x38 fan is still too loud for you, then there are other options out there, but I wouldn't know if with less fan power, you would be able to do 3.5GHz stable.

Umm... U say ur running a Q6600 B3 G0? WTF?

Anyway i'd say get a IFX-14 I can run my Q6600 (G0) @ 3.6GHz with only 1x 1000rpm 38mm think fan. Thats in days that are around 30 degrees celsius, which i think is more then 65 to 75 F.

The TRUE is a more efficient heatsink, this is true. However, the Noctua NH-U12P would be my choice for a balance between silence and performance. The TRUE fin spacing isn't as ideally suited to low noise, meaning that it's going to be slightly louder. Furthermore, the NH-U12P is more cost-effective solution, as the price of the cooler includes the NF-P12 fan included with it.

TR HR-01 PLUS, is one of the best for low noise. The fin spacing makes its perfect for low CFM fans. Cools better with low cfm and generates less turbulence (noise) than tight spaced fin HS's.

True + Lap
+ 2 Sflex 38mm's push pull =]

in a few days im going to match up a lapped Q6700 and a lapped TRUE, should be interesting :)

I agree with CrazyDiamond on the S1283.

Throw on a Noctua fan and you are cool and quite.

If you are looking for silence as well, then surely ASUS Lion Square is your choice: good silence with good performance.

NewEgg is running MIR now, pretty good choice.
