Hi Guys Need To Clear My Doubt.. was thinking of getting a OCZ XTC Cooler For My Rams... Using Asus Rampage Formula With HIS 4870x2.. Can the cooler fit without touching the GFX?
Thanks in advance

nope, it will touch, but barely. i have a maximus II and the cooler just barely sits on top of the video card. the cooler just slightly pushes the video card down, but not far enough to break it. i put some electric tape on the PCB of the video card to insulate it from the OCZ cooler so it doesn't short

If you replace the standard thumbscrews that the OCZ uses then it should work fine. Thats what i had to do with mine when i had it on my old setup.

yup, i did replace the thumbscrew with the shorter screw that was included, but the actual cooler still sits on top of the video card

Since the X2 cards have the metal plate on the back, the cooler will touch it but just barely. If you have a card without that plate then it won't touch.

Isit safe for it to touch the blackplate of the 4870x2 ?
Thanks in advance

I'm using the the XTC cooler on a Rampage Formula with a 4870 and I replaced the thumb screw with a phillips head screw and stuck some electricians tape on the brackets just to be on the safe side. I have no problems with it. You'll be fine as long as you dont use the thumb screw on the graphics card side of the cooler. The gpu looks a bit bent but even with the stock cooler onwhen the card used to be straighter, I had about 5mm clearance.

100% a-ok! For the short time I had a HD3870X2, the XTC was resting on the top of the card. All the backplate does is dissipate heat.
i used a tape jes to insulate the xtc clamps from the GC pcb
learn from me guysss
i saw small sparks wen i tried to put the xtc while my rig was turned on :shocked::shocked:
Yep, I used the smaller screws that were included on the bottom clip, and put some electrical tape over the entire bracket so that it can slightly touch the card without any shorting issues.

Would this work on or be worthwhile to get for a Gigabyte UD5?
