if I am planning to use q9550, should I change my current p35 dfi to the gigabyte p45 ud3p.

one of the diff is pci 2.0 x16 on the ud3p versus pci x16 on dfi.

so what you guys think. The other processor I have is the e8400, which board should I put that in.

thank you

PCI is the same. Its not worth the update. Save your money for Nehalem or Deneb.

I would keep your current board... I don't see how getting a new processor will require PCI-E 2.0, and for that matter doesn't PCI-E 2.0 x16 really only matter for cards like the 4870 X2?

Thank you fellows.

How about overclocking which one will oc the q9550 better?

Is there any advantage that anyone can think of if I switch to P45 UD3P from the DFI LT P35?

I've not had personal experience with either of these boards, but isn't the general consensus that most P45 boards will clock higher than most P35 boards?

I could be wrong, it's just the impression I've gotten. I also have the feeling with a Q9950 and P35/P45 you're more likely to hit the CPU's limit before you'd hit an FSB wall.

Yes they may be better but don't you think you should hold off until the next gen? I mean your board is still a top performer so the benefit would only be marginal and only meaningful to benchers, people with CF and people with egos.

yea i wouldnt bother going from p35 to p45. ...i just up graded to a gigabyte ud3r and an e8400...but that was coming from an athlon64x2 system...so the upgrade is well worth it..i should have it soon from new egg..:D i just need it to play the latest games and im a single card kind of guy..so core 2 will be almost as good as i7 seeing i7 gaming performance dosnt really show much advantage over core 2 unless your running 2 or 3 cards....the whole system including $300 worth of water cooling cooling parts..adds up to around $900..and that includes an $80 dollar case...wd caviar black 32mb cache..the whole 9 yards from scratch..but not including the gpu..i have a 8600gt im about to upgrade from..
