This is not something new, I'm posting it because I don't see any info about it here. I'm not the author of any of the linked threads.
Some of you have seen it before, and some of you haven't.;)
Windows Vista:
This thread describes (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=144783) how to make a clean Vista install on a computer, either the x32 or x64 version of your preinstalled OS. (Ultimate 32 or Ultimate 64, Business 32 or Business 64 . . . )
The guide is made for Asus/HP/Lenovo/Dull systems etc. which doesn't have to be activated.
It will most likely not work on installs made of regular OEM discs, but I'm not sure.
The guide happens to be made for Lenovo, but it works for others as well. It's not that this guide is the best one, you have to find that one yourself.:D

Windows XP:
There's also an old way to make a clean install CD for XP (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=91129), as long as the \Windows\i386\ is intact on your HDD.
It's a HP thread, but just ignore the model specific steps.
You can't switch to x64, and I don't think it works for preinstalled x64 (not very common anyway).
Remember to add drivers (SATA for XP!), service packs and updates before burning ISO.
nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/)/vLite (http://www.vlite.net/) is always a useful tool, and c't Offline Update (http://www.heise.de/ct/projekte/offlineupdate/download_uk.shtml) is great to have now that AutoPatcher is gone.
