The overall best FPS right now is COD4, it has a strong single player as well an amazing multiplayer. I have sunk over 19 days into the multiplayer over the last year, and I still find neat new combinations of weapons/perks/attachments for the various gamemodes.

My personal opinion is Crysis, Warhead, and I'm currently playing through Far Cry 2 so I'll let you know -- so far I'm not impressed with Far Cry 2's graphics, but we'll see. I've only played about an hour so far, which isn't much.

COD4 FTW!!! and crysis warhead, crysis was good, but the playability on older (aka not completely new) cpu/gpu's is not that great.

Guys, based on your experience, does the COD4 or Crysis really better than the UT3 in terms of graphics? I only saw the screenshots of UT3 and thought they amazed me.:eek: Input plz.

cod4 is damn amazing but gets boring after some time for me.
ut3 has absolutly amazing graphics but you die way faster than in ut2003/2004 as it seems to me.
personally i dont like ut3 that much but ut2004 was also damn great, but im way out atm, i dont like crysis that much
as its way too slow for me, and i just hate playing with around 30fps, even if it seems to run ok x.x

I find COD4 overrated... sure, the single player storyline was awesome, but the online play just doesn't cut it for me.

I only play FPS', and my favorite over the past year has been Enemy Territory (Quake Wars).

I second that. I find COD4 multi is very overrated but this is based on my personal experience. I bet if you have a good team the game becomes much more fun. Unfortunatelly, it is impossible to do that in a public server where hackers, immature cry babies and OMG-LOL-1337 crowd run amok.

Seriously, what do graphics mean if you've played a game for the umpteenth time...? Gameplay is king. I don't play the game online but I'd say Quake3 is still the best.

COD4 for shure. There a little bit of problems though if your an extreme FPSer. For instance the maps are just way too small so it creates noobs with M203s rockets launchers and nade spam and constant respawn sometimes, also the field of view could be better in multi, its ok, though.

Luckily there are custom server with maps that are of decent size, but they just arent as detailed or creative as official COD4 maps.

I have been out of any video games for a long time. The last time I played first person shooting game was Unreal Tournament 2003. I thought it was good back then..

So what's the greatest one today? UT3? What's the greatest in terms of graphics and playability?

The biggest question is whether you want to play single player, or multi.

For multi the good old fps are still the best, very few shooters have offered something remotely better than the old ones such as ut04, q3, cod, cs, etc.

As for single player campaign, crysis is decent. I liked it more than Warhead, but it might be just me :P. Prey is also quite enjoyable. UT3 I didnt like that much, but come on, none of the UT series has had any real singleplayer campaign..

PS FEAR is also interesting on single :)

you right, though i find it not very fun without some friends, but thats just me. I used to play that game with 5 other friends, and my god it was so fun, we were very tactical and all a pretty good shot, so it made it real fun. we were like the special forces squad of our team, need something done, we handled it, LOL. was great though, also made for quite a few halarious moments playing with that many budies.

This si a HUGE reason i am all about the release of left for dead, already got some friends ready to go.

Sadly its really hard to do this in call of duty 4, because when you spawned in battlefield, your trip from that spawn was like an adventure, because of just how the game is played and the very large maps, but in cod4, its fun for shure, im still addicted to it, but its much less "team strat" oriented, and doesnt feel much like anything when you spawn, unlike BF2, when i died i was like aww, then couldnt wait to spawn again for another adventure into the battlefield, prefect name for that game by the way. My friends stop playing and i got bored after that. To add i was an ace chopper flier in that game, i owned at it, circle strafe and everything, and air battles were awesome in that game

I still play Day of Defeat: Source, it came out well not 2001 but sometime long before all these mentioned games

CoD4 is way way way way overrated in my opinion.

Graphically its sweet, Single Player is fantastic, MP is horribly paced. there is little to no consistency in the "speed" of play... you walk like Frankenstein (yes i realize that is true if carrying 60+ lbs of gear) MP is basically who sees who first, unless of course you are wee-todd-did with FPS's and cant aim.

I just hate how slow you move through a map yet how fast you die upon encountering enemies plus with the GFX as good as they are its almost beneficial to drop the eye candy so as to have the character models stand out.

thats just my .02 but i think CoD4 MP is overrated ( and Yes I do play, and with a clan)

TF2, can be fun, lots of it, if you are drunk, which i often am... :D

i like the vehicles better.

If you guys ask me, id like to see more multi players like gears of war (multiplayer story mode), only less buggy for PC.

Graphics and playability are too subjective for me to tag the "greatest" title on any game. But yeah, if you like the "one lone warrior against many" schtikt (or a splash of team-based), UT3 is the shiznit. Very pretty, a killer design and everything every UT game so far has been, and a lot more. If you want something new, Farcry 2 is shaping up to be kickarse, though it takes a bit of getting used to, and a fast machine.

BF2, I probably didn't get as high as you guys, but I got about 800-900 hours in :D. Nothing has beat it for a good game with friends on ventrilo. CoD4 is overrated yes, and CS:S is my shooter atm.

Yea to answer some of you guys questions I'm more of a single player type person, not much into online multiplayer which is why I liked Unreal 2 when it came out.. I like pretty and nice design on the graphic so UT3 as it is.:) i'm definitely gonna get me COD4 later though. I wanna get all out of UT3 first before jumping over to COD4... :cool:

the graphics of ut3 are indeed impressive - especially if you consider that it's running with such a good performance! but tbh, ut3 isn't that much of a singleplayer game. even if ut3 is the first ut to actually have some kind of plot/storyline, it's still only tournament based deathmatch/ctf/etc. if you're having fun to play dm/ctf and such against bots - ut3 is perfect ;)

never played cod4 so i can't say anything about that.

UT3 gets boring QUICKLY!!! Huge expansive maps with 5 people playing on them. COD4 gets boring too, but there are a lot of folks playing it so you'll have more company.

I tried to find a good reason to disagree, but couldn't. :D UT3 is boring online because old fashioned DM is dead. UT seems like it's going to remain the king of online DM. COD4 bores me spitless because I get sick of being bombed. If strikes and copters were harder to get I think I could play a lot more. I tried to get into FC2 DM online over the weekend and frankly it's REAL good, but needs some serious tweaking. Getting kicked after every ranked match is one of the stupidest things I've seen in online play. :shrug:

When i say BF2 online, i mean version 1.40 modded :cool:
Run fast for longer, one shot one kill anti-tank ..same as with M95 sniper rifle ;)

Team Fortress 2 is great in terms of gameplay but it is beaten by a lot of other games in graphics detail. I think it's style more than makes up for that though.

Left 4 Dead is coming out next week, go play the demo now!!

UT3 requires alot of skill, but gives a decent deathmatch. not too many players for it though.
cod4 team deathmatch is amazingly fun, but the public servers tend to be too easy imo.
TF2 is ok, i dont like the way the maps were designed, and some of the classes just dont feel like they should be in the game imo.
and crysis for graphics ofc

I only play FPS and don't have a tolerance for games if it's not something spectacular, just doesn't hold my attention, it's probably related be my ADD :rolleyes:.

*Crysis sucks, nothing fun about it, AI is retarded but has great graphics, if your like me, I want more in a game then just graphics.

*COD4 single player is awesome, multi-online is way overrated and will make you wanna ditch it after a while, fun for about a week or so.

*L4D, the demo anyway is very fun, can't speak for the final game obviously but looks very promising.

*Far Cry2 is good, not spectacular but good, still has it's moments, reminds me of Crysis a little but not nearly as bad, definitely worth playing.

*I have Call of Duty 5 but haven't played it yet because I waiting to go through it coop with my buddies but looks like COD4 just back to WWII.

ugh, I'm tired and going to bed. Of course these are just my opinions.

**For what it's worth, one of the best FPS ever made was SHOGO Mobile Armor Division. They need a 2009 remake.......Now were talking!!!!

Left 4 Dead by a mile. Greatest game ever and Ive only played the demo. More games should have co-op multiplayer. BUY THIS GAME NOW.

BF2 is great if you have friends you can squad up with....but buggy as hell. I havent played it since moving onto vista 64.

COD4 is a great game but its plagued by WAY WAY WAY too many campers. Ive got a love for UT2k4 and UT3 because I love classic style DM and CTF, where the skill was in out moving and out shooting your opponents rather than hiding in a corner with a rife and sniping spawns. Its quite rare that you find a server with 20 people and less than 18/20 of them are campers.

COD4 and Crysis Warhead are the two best ive played this year.

Crysis the original was boring as hell, bad AI, slow action and abit tedious.

FC2 is pretty dull too, it takes a while to get into it but after a while that also becomes very boring and repetative. Ive only played about 4 hrs and im bored stiff of it already.

Anything by Valve. Anything. Even Peggle is awesome. Left 4 Dead is alot of fun. Try the demo.
I suggest you start with Half Life 2 and then Episode One and Episode 2. Less of a game and more of a story. You won't regret time spent on the Half Life 2 series. Valve can make an inanimate onject come to life through story.

BioShock. Great game. Don't expect too much out of it since it never develops past the 2nd half. There's a buildup in the story... and then nothing. The reviews hype it up too much, but it is alot of fun.

That's all I got. I'm playing Prey right now and its great so far.

UT3 is the King of FPS for fast, pure gibfest action. :up: I wish for more online players, though I often find Warfare, vCTF, and TDM games with 12-15 players in them so not a big prob.

You've played BF2 right, it's from 2005 but still the all time best online First Person Shooter ever and it's only $9 now, I still play it just about every day.
Other than BF2 probably COD4, I could never get in to it myself I have COD4 and and extra copy of crysis I'll let them go cheap :)
