so I can share some pictures of my new -140C phase change beast I'm picking up tommorrow at Old Dominion Freight's LA dock... which reminds me I gotta get ahold of Baker18 and Cap'n Cascade to take a peek :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Hmmm...let's see I have an Athlon FX her waiting for a motherboard and a new R9800Pro to be replace by an XT....and some SSSUUUBBBBB zero cooling, yup should work well.
(maybe not "quite" -140C ;) )

oh here's some from the auction i won...

JUst imagine instead of that stainless steel "finger" a manifold and a couple Baker18 evaps...

this will definitely be interesting......

Captain,
I sure hope so... :D
To be honest I have no idea how this thing functions??? All I know is that if you stick a thermocouple to that probe thing, it cools to -120C or so... and I imagine that probe thisng is kinda' like a big evap? right? So why not use a couple Baker18 evaps??
Also on the spec sheet for this series of units they are rated to remove up to 1500W of heat! Only bad thing is it weighs 220# and uses 230V power, so I'll have to set up my benching in the laundry room :)

Is that 3 phase power?

TheDude,
Dunno...will find out soon though.

Well rather than rip it all up, just dunk the 'finger' into a secondary coolant (captain suggests silicon oil) and then pump that round waterblocks, much easier and cheaper than refilling it with a low stage refrigerant.

Good luck.

sweet! how much did that set u back?

charlie

$76 :D
New retail is almost $10K ;)

I've been watching them on Ebay for 6 months, and they pop up every few months, the last one went for $1040 and a smaller
P-75 went for $450. This one is untested and may not work, but that's OK 'cuz I have to empty and mod it for CPU/GPU evaps anyway. Even if it was complete trash, the compressors and condensor would be great for a homebrew! I will know all on Monday!
Heck! if it maintains -75C on the CPU/GPU I'd be overjoyed! Any more than that is just gravy!

Berkut,
I don't know? Maybe the gauges don't read when it's turned off...
I really won't know anything until I get it home and plug it in.
It's OK if it's discharged though, I have to get some CPU/GPU evaps on there.

Hopefully it serves you well Charlie. :D

charlie

well, I've got it!!! :D
It's extremely cool...and massive.
It is 230V single phase (same as a electric clothes dryer I believe)
It weighs 180# (85kg) it has a Tecumseh compressor and a primary and secondary expansion tank, and a nice SS condensor.
That's about it...plus a LOT of tubing, coiled tubing manifolded tubing and stuff encased in a giant block of foam.
And indeed the unit is discharged, it appears the refrigerant line at the evap is broken. So that's it. A couple Baker18 evaps and I'll be rollin' soon. My A64 FX-51 and R9800 are itching for some cryo-mania!!! My goal is to bench at 3100mHz and 600/4XX........
And indeed the compressor does say "charged with alkylbenzene oil"

That's it...

Thats a autocascade ?? omfg, refilling that is going to be horrible... :| Unless you have a manual :\

charlie

Well,
Fortunately they're a very well established company here in SoCal, with good technical support contacts and distribution channels for spare parts....no prob :D
BTW, Will I be the one of the "first" with auto-cascade cpu/gpu cooling?

Charlie....

Did you get a manual or spec sheets on this Brute?

Maybe a spec plate attached somewhere?

Just curious as to what this was loaded with as far
as referigerant etc.

What would be cool..... if you could go to their plant
and take a "tour/visit" thru the fab department.

Pops,
I will have the manual on Thursday...I have to fax them a PO for a manual (and $20 :( )
I have the spec plate and the unit was built in 1993, it uses a blended CFC-Free refrigerant, 230V, 1 phase, temp range -120C to -140C and stuff like that. It's in terrific condition, I think it was simply discarded because of the broken refrig line and the high cost to recharge...

and fwiw, the charge specification is for
16 oz.
of refrigerant!

i say we see some pics of it;) i wana see what the inside of it looks and how they got there setup going on...autocascade hmmm doesnt that just sound like fun:toast:

Here's the prob...
you can't see any of it :)
Not that I wouldn't show it....but the only thing visible is a compressor, condensor, fan and a couple expansion tanks. The separators and this and that and the other thing....are all encased in foam insulation. So there's nothing to see :D unfortunately. If I rip open the foam, I ruin the cascade. It's big, it's heavy, it runs on 230V and it's a beast. Dunno' what else to say!
