I just reached the end of story mode, and highly recommend this mod for anyone that enjoyed the original. bare in mind that its MUCH harder and its not something you will beat in 10 minutes like people could do with the story mode of Portal. I think that this mod is for people that finished at least a few challenges on the original or it will be a VERY frustrating game. but overall.. great fun, and a decent prequel to the best game ever made :up::up:

That looks f***ing insane, how long is it? How many puzzles?
I downloaded the Flash Version Map Pack the other day and finished it yesterday, it was very good, 40 different puzzles and 4.5hours of gameplay there (i think i completed the original quicker).
19 new chambers.
and like the original it also comes with bonus challenges (least portals/steps/time)... weird thing tho.... mine haven't unlocked, even tho all missions on story mode are unlocked... no idea why :shrug:

I'm on chamber 19, and holy sh*t, i don't think i'm going to be able to do it lol (been trying for the last half hour)
So far it's a damn good map pack, some of the turret rooms are definitely the best turret rooms i've seen, where you have to choose your own way to take them all out.
Chamber 18 was a trick chamber though... You can walk right past the complicated looking bit and use a portal to get right to the end in under 10 seconds... Did anyone else notice that? There's an elaborate walkthrough on youtube that is about 3 minutes long....

Well i'm an idiot, turns out you needed to do the complex bit in chamber 18 or you can't do chamber 19!
I've completed it now, it was pretty good right up until the end... It just seemed to me the guy was trying to add in a back story for glados etc and i don't think this is right because Valve is working on an actual portal prequel...

it's not that i didnt know what to do, its the impossible timing to shoot a portal midair into a moving platform and then still landing into another portal
i <3 puzzles, but not acrobatics.
they should of made the game slower or gravity less
i still love this mod and all, but i had my mouse buttons bound to quicksave and quickload

well I tried not to give any spoilers and keep my comments to a minimum but I guess its fine to discuss it now :)

it's not that i didnt know what to do, its the impossible timing to shoot a portal midair into a moving platform and then still landing into another portal
i <3 puzzles, but not acrobatics.

The thing I liked best about the original Portal was that you could see the amount of work that went into planning each chamber. Each room was done to perfection, each challenge that you played showed a new solution to that old puzzle that you never thought possible. And that made the game so damn good.
The new chambers are not bad, but they have too many problems that you just don't find on the original.
2 examples: chamber 19... we all 'know' what needs to be done right? but still....having that moving plat doesn't make it 'hard'. It makes it frustrating in a stupid way. IMHO its just bad level design. And worse..there IS a way to get up there without having to deal with the moving plat. here is how I did it:
take the door thats under the stairs at the entrance of level 19

go up to the observation room and hit the switch to bring out the wall plats and jump on top of this one: (much easier then jumping all the way up there, took me a couple attempts at best)

quick save...and with a few tries....you should be able to jump into that orange portal and will be launched up there. (the orange portal doesn't need to be that far, just as far as you can jump)
and the second example....they said you cannot get stuck on the last chambers, didn't they? they leave you to it since they is 'no way' to mess up...well...check this one out lol:

there is no way to get it out of there...I was trying to get the yellow one out by killing the purple one but you can't jump back into that tube, and so it stays stuck until you reload. :p:

I just finished it tonight as well. Like some have said, the game is more frustrating than challenging at some points. I still had fun playing it, just not as much as the original.

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out the score with this room, how to get up there, but luckily once i remembered exactly how to perform the sling shot trick with the angled platform it was pretty easy.

I was gonna say... I didn't have to touch the moving platform :shrug: Like alot of things in some tests it seemed to be there to put you off..

The trick is the initial series of jumps, when i first started i tried to line myself up so i was falling straight down into a portal. But as you can see from that vid, you actually have to be going forwards more and shooting a little ahead of yourself on the floor, it's easy with practice and as you can see makes you go way higher :)
very nice Xello. the floor near the main exit of that room (right before you had to reload) is also an option... launch like you did at first, do a portal on that floor, get up there then transfer to the other side like you did in the end.. :up:

the challenges are the same, they're all unlocked to about 12, then random ones there after

The amount of work that went into this and not charging a dime is unbelievable. They now have walkthru's for all levels at their website. I've looked after completing a level but haven't given in to looking before.
