View Full Version : Fuzion v2 mount pressure issues - lapped cpu (SOLVED)

hey folks
today i felt like doing some work so i lapped my cpu.i have the feeling i might have gone too far though:D
my temps are higher now, i would say between 5-10 degrees higher
i am sure that the contact between the fuzion v2 block and the cpu ihs is less as ii could screw down the screws of the v2 totally
what can i do to increase its mount pressure?
how does the gtz compare with the fuzion in that matter?

1. Has the TIM broken in yet? The temps may soon go down if it's not.
2. Maybe switch out the stock back plate or get new mounting hardware?
3. I think the Fuzion will be better, I think it is bowed more, and will have more contact, don't quote me on that however.

i am not an socket 755 fusion v2 user (yeah an am2 user)
and i don't know if it's possible you could/should ask experts that but can't you just put a washer all the way on the botom side of the bolts (the like underneith the springs idea but then under the backplate)
i hope you will solve your problem

He could use a bunch of PVC washers on the bottom between the bolt hardware and the backplate, yeah. Don't use springs though, learned that the hard way.

why don't use springs??

1. MX2 - no curing time needed
2. Fuzion v2 comes with hardmount which should do any job :D

this one was one of my initial thoughs but im afraid thats not the issue.
im thinking towards the lines of standoffs of the block

yah i think that mine needs more mounting pressure too, i might use the universal mount or get some washers

why don't use springs??
Stresses out the back of your board. Bent PCB is never a good thing.:shakes:
And for the OP, are you using the pro-mount or the one multi-hole hard mount?

i think that hes taking about the hard mount, and why not springs with a backplate that shouldent bend

You are correct, I remember last time I used springs was when I needed more pressure on the my SB with my Ek NB/SB 6. That bends the board, so I had to use washers. Problem is that if he is using the multi-hole hard mount you can't use the pro-mount backplate.

why cant u the screws are threaded the same, and the multi mount has 775 holes

im using the pro mount
keep in mind what i said about the bolts not being able to turn more.
btw i have a backplate so there i am not that concerned about bending atm (not with such a low pressure anyway)

My screws were not threaded the same. So there was my problem. I know the multi-hole hard mount has 775 holes, but I used the pro-mount because it looked cleaner and for me and the back plate only worked if I used pro-mount. :wth:

There's your problem. The pro-mount inhibits your ability to tighten the bolts after the set limit. Quick fix would be to switch the mount.

Last year, mildly lapped my Q6600 with 1-2°C low temps (4050 MHz/Zalman ZM-WB3 GOLD) but i know people with bad contact issues after a hard-lapping job...

but i know people with bad contact issues after a hard-lapping job...
exactly my issue but how to solve it?
i might try the hard mount today and see what happens. Hopefully the backplate with work with it somehow
anyway would you reckon i would have those issues with the GTZ or Supreme?

:)here's what I did .........
used a True back plate(it has a threaded collar that goes thru the mobo ) from Sidewinder & the spring/screw setup was from Petra's & flipped the top mount plate over on the V2
ran the screws up from the backplate / grommet/washer nut at the top of mobo at the PCB
this is Cyber Druid's Idea:up: NOT mine soo all the Credit goes to him for this Mod Idea & he has all the parts u need
You can screw the springs all the way down for MAX pressure & not bend your PCB on the MoBo !!
the Chipset block Mod  is My Idea it has a modded backplate for it in Brass & the top is a modded Brass top also I just applied CD's mod Idea to the chipset as the Rampage Formula has 4 holes for the X48 chipset ...:yepp:
How about ditching the Pro mount and go with the standard mount?

ok i just tried something..i losened up a bit the screws and tightened them carefully..i was monitoring the temps at the same time
i managed to decrease my temps by more than 15 degrees (load went slowly to 70degrees before)..
Now its:
c1: 51
c2: 52
c3: 46
c4: 47
i also noticed that overtightening the c3,4 screws still decreased temps more. The c1,c2 screws cant be tightened more.
I am sure i can lower temps even more with more pressure.
So i guess this is good news..i thought my lapping job messed up but it turns out good after all
@bigslappy..thanx for the idea (& CD ofcourse^^)
i was looking at the hardmount for the last half hour but my problem was that the chrome plate wont fit because of the mofsets. It never crossed my mind to use its screws for the pro mount though! GENIUS!
i will report back soon

ok i just used CD's method but slightly adjusted. i used the springs from the pro mount as they are harder..i was able to knock off an additional 2-3 degrees from this..now im getting 51,50,44,44..i used another application method now though but i doubt it was enough..there is quite some difference between the cores..
anyway problem solved i suppose :D
