So whats the deal with ultra?

I've seen some nice looking cases and plenty of PSUs from the company ULTRA. Are they any good? and why is it that only Tigerdirect carries them? thanks!:)

i wouldent trust thier PSU's but i like the cases theyd are like $20 at frys and are nice quality for a basic case

I know there are several guys that would make out with their Ultra cases here, I like them a lot too, idk about the psu though.

edit: when I was looking at the 1000w, it was available at a ton of places (Performance PC's being one popular online vendor). Tiger Direct being, by light years, the most expensive:down:

they have the 1kW+ units that are on par with the others, its just they are bottom tear with most of their PSU's

and the 1KW ultra is more than the hx1000

ah, now that you mention it, I think I've only read stuff about the 1000w and the 1600w(which can apparently stress your neighborhood's entire power grid:D)

The recent higher end ultra psu's are ok, but when they first entered the psu market they sold some horrible low quality crap.

I would avoid Ultra at all costs. I also see it weird that only TG carries them.

I bought from ZZF a 600watts Ultra X-Finity 2-Generation with After Spin technology. Yeah I was a noob back then when we talked about PSUs. The PSU works, never gave me a problem and its been rock solid with overclocked PC. However, the BIGGEST PROBLEM is the FAN WHICH MAKES IT SOUND LIKE AN AIRPLANE ENGINE.

My PC has more than 7 fans (Striker II) and the PC with the Ultra PSU (Striker 680i) has 3 fans and its 3 times louder than my Striker II PC.
I even replaced the fans with some Yate loons but nothing made the noise go away. Oh well, that pc is not in use 24 hours so I can live with it, but if I had $80, I would replace that PSU right now.

The ULTRA X3 PSU line is made by CWT. Just like the Corsair 1kw. It may use some different caps, cables, fan etc.. but the platform is the same.

Top quality for sure. :up:


PS: I'd avoid their other units tho...
