View Full Version : Do I Need a Second Rad?

I'd really, really, like to get away with using a 120 rad here.

I'm cooling a Q6600 and Northbridge on a 780i. The fan is an S-Flex.
With little to no overclocking, would this work?

Case is a modded p182. I have an extra 220 rad, but where the heck would I put it? This looks clean now.

So can I get away with it?

Without overclocking you should be ok. The northbridge may put too much heat load for a single. It is generally not necessary to water cool a northbridge in any case. I would try it and if the temps are good go with it. If you don't get enough cooling try it with the northbridge out of the loop.

Adding additional radiators will only help, never hurt....

Thanks. I'll give it a shot then.

I have a radbox if I need to throw a second one on the back, but i'd rather keep everything internal.

One other option I guess would be to drill new mounting holes and drop the 220 in where the 120 is. It would leave me just enough space at the top for a drive.

As far as the northbridge goes... I absolutely HATE the stock NB cooler for the 780i and I already have the VJ block. So if it doesn't work out with 1 rad I will add a second rather than take out the NB block.

I think you can install a 120.2 in the roof of a P182 - certainly the 120.2 grill fits. That's what i'm going to try when i get round to water cooling my bedroom PC

EDIT: You could leave the fan at the rear and have a 120.2 rad in front of it - that's my plan (in the roof i mean)
