Hi ya.
Can any of you recommend a free download to a Hard drive utility tool to fix bad blocks/sectors in Windows environment? I use GWScan for hard drives but that only works in DOS environment. The hard drive I'm trying to test is an external drive via Firewire connection. Helpppppppppppppppp.......:welcome:

CHKDSK?
If you think drive is bad first make a full format and later thorough CHKDSK scan. It will take very long but it may solve the problems.

Thanks for the reply.
I would like to try CHKDSK in windows but the drive cannot be recognized. It is recognized in Disk Management in Computer Management but it cannot be initialized and gives me an error "the drive has bad block" which is why I'm asking if any of ya have a disk repair utility that you would recommend. I find GWScan (been using it for years) very good but it's only good in DOS. Help.:)

Well, best bet would be to go to your HDD vendor webpage and download their tools. I know Seagate, WD, Samsung and probable others have them. They include testing utilities, low level formatting tool and other stuff to check your drives.
