I was just wondering what size ups my friend needs to handle his new build? I was looking at a wattage calculator for PSU on newegg and it recommended 1209 watt PSU. He has a Tagan BZ1100. System consists of an evga 790i, Q6850, CoolIT Coolzone FZ1000 TEC cooler, 8 gigs OCZ Reaper DDR3, 2 Veloci Raptor 150 GB in raid 0, 3 x 8800GTX SLI, and an optical drive.
He has an APC 1500 VA UPS and it will not power the system on battery. I believe the APC is only 900 Watt and I am wondering if his system is drawing more than that or does that UPS have a problem? The UPS is almost new as well ....
Any suggestions? Do any of you power gurus know what wattage this system will draw? Just wondering, as I don't have a clue ..... Anyone have a link to where I can read standard wattage draw for individual devices?

If I had to guess, which may not be any more credible than a guess of your own, I'd say the total draw from the listed system under 100% load is around 700W.
Does the APC unit have any problem powering only his monitor along with several other components/peripherals/accessories? Try testing the UPS with a lighter load.
I'm using a Cyberpower 1500AVR(1500VA, 900W) that gives me ~5 minutes of run time with 3 computers attached - e8400@4GHz, Q6600@stock, AMD MT-37@800MHz, 2x DFI X48-T2R, 12GB of DDR2, 10 SATA hard drives, Rocketraid 3520, 7950GX2, 8400GS, Dell 2407WFP, fans, peripherals, etc.

is the TEC Cooler on its own powersupply? those things are power hogs ...

If you want a really badass UPS, build your own from some deep cycle marine batteries and a sine wave inverter.

The TEC is running off the same tagan 1100 that runs the whole system.
Everything is a little weird when he has all 3 - 8800GTX in the system at the same time. Grid, which is what we are testing it with for games right now, has some chunks. But with only 1-8800GTX in the system, it plays perfectly smooth. We were wondering if there is some kind of power problem when all 3 cards are in. I ran neweggs psu calculator and it says he needs a 1200+ watt psu. He has a Thermaltake toughpower 1200 he can take from his other system and try it in this one. It is just a big breakdown to tear into the case (Zalman Z1000) where all his cable routing goes behind the board.

I forgot to say that the APC will run the system with only 1 8800GTX installed. It won't with all 3 in.
