how many 8800GTs can this board run at once? I don't see the specs listed anywhere on new egg and I feel like a fool for asking but I just don't know

You can run a single nvidia card ( like your 8800GT) or a pair of ATi cards. intel chipset for crossfire and nvidia for SLi.

I probably spoke too soon, if you wanted to run a multiple monitor setup I think you can do that with a pair of 8800GT's.

it has 3 pcie slots, 1 x16, 1x8, 1x4

but remember that sli doesn't work on this board (i guess that you use it for folding;))

great board and rock stable, no boot up issues with ultiple cards like on my old ix38quadgt

So I could run 3x 8800GTs? Or does the x4 not have enough bandwidth?

The last two slots are pretty tight so I wouldn't suggest it, at least not if your GT's run as hot as mine did.

You could run 3 cards for a multi monitor setup, just not in SLI.

You could run 2 cards however for gaming etc with one of them acting as a physx card.

Running a third card however is inadvisable to the extremely limited space between the lower 2 pcie slots and i'm not sure how much bandwidth the 3rd slot would be given in this scenario (possibly as low as 1x).

There are also rumors around that any pcie 2.0 equipped intel board could in theory be approved for sli use by being certified to do so by nvidia and being given a modified bios to enable it... watch this space ;)

The bottom slot is 100% 24/7 always x4 bandwidth, as it is run through the southbridge.

The top two run either x16/x1 for a single GPU, or run x8/x8 for Crossfire or if you have a GPU/RAID card pair for example
