Heh, all this "gaming" hype. I never had any special version of AV or disabled it specially for gaming. It's always there in the background. Have no clue why anyone would need so called gaming mode. Any properly coded AV can work just fine in the background without bothering user or impairing performance.

Nod32 Antivirus FTW!

Never had one issue with it and uses the least amount of resources.

Bitdefender is a good antivirus though also.

I use NOD32 personally and it's been great no Virus/Trojan for over 2 years. I've heard great things about Avast though.

I play steam games with nod32 and they run very smooth. Infact I have had more trouble with another program than anytime with nod32.

I don't even use Windows Defender. Firewall only.

The cause of infections usually lies behind the keyboard. I use Sandboxie in case I need to open questionable files.

i switched to kaspersky after nod32 didnt protect me like it should have
its been working hella good :)
my comp is basically a community computer, everyone is on it, so av is a priority. otherwise i wouldnt even bother with one

Kaspersky's the best AV I've got ever. I've tried Nod32, McAfee and such, Kaspersky is absolutely amazing compared to the others, never had any lagging problems, even with my old crappy comp!

I use Antivir. It's free for personal use only. And I set it to only scan on write.

Uhm, I just hit the "disable" tab when gaming. Why do you need AV running while you are gaming?

Only reason I would use an AV is to prevent n00bs messing it up while you're away.

But that's where I would use UAC, a firewall, and a good hosts file.

I use Avast. It gets great reviews. It doesn't bog the system down, and I've experienced no issues with it while flying sims online. With one of the sims I fly you cannot use a firewall as it causes connectivity issues. I've ben using it for years now and have not suffered any virii, or other nasty's. I like the piece os mind of seeing those updates regularly...much more regularly than other Av programs I have tried out. Norton is one of the worst! Avoid it like the plague. It will bog yout system down. I am very satisfied with Avast and the best part is it's free. :)

AntiVir and Comodo for me.

SpywareBlaster, Spybot, and Ad-Aware for internet oriented maintenance. Mind you, with SpywareBlaster blocking almost everything in the first place, Spybot and Ad-Aware only ever detect ~3 issues combined. And that's after a month.

Diskeeper, CCleaner, and RegScrub XP for other system maintenance.

BAM! Clean n' smooth. And, no, I don't have a Phenom. :rotf:

I used that before. Quite good. Version 3 hogs up resources but 2.7 does not.

Agreed. Kaspersky is good.

How I hate that! Advertisement every single time I boot up...

AVG 8 - bloated, more so than nod32 version 3
Avast! 4.8 home - quite light weight, similar to nod32 v3. Their scanning takes forever...
Kaspersky - the 2009 is the best IMO. Least bloated and reasonably fast scan rates.

my laptops antivirus = dont be an idiot.

no windows firewall/defender crap

with only 512mb ram i cant afford the memory overhead of an AV program. I just use google chrome which means i dont pick up tons of crap and i stay away from sketchy sites.

my router handles sketchy traffic

AV is so over rated. if u dont take stupid risks you wont get a virus.

Avast here, too, since I swapped over to Vista 2 years ago. Only slight down-side is that it won't install on Server 2008, since I guess they assume that if you're using a Server OS, you aren't a home user :p: I've had full system scans running in the background while gaming, and haven't noticed a thing.

Using ClamWin AntiVirus on my gaming rig and server (both of which run Server 2008).

I'm one of those people who refuse to pay for anti-virus software, especially when there is good free anti-virus software out there :p:

You can edit the registry (google it) to disable the splashup and advertisements.
Just about as low and good as NOD32 as long as you do a custom install and set the heuristics to "high" and it is free.
