Weak.

If it's priced higher than the current GTX 260 then this card is totally pointless.

Wow, the 4870 wins most of the tests at higher res with AA/AF. I would never count lost planet though. And if you look at the old 260 vs the new 260 the increases in AA/AF using Crysis, pt boats and lost planet are within margin of error. Looks like a bluff to me.

Well, they talked me into buying a 4870. Thanks alot nvidia.

wait till 8.9 finals, at least 10% gain in performance all around will make this card a waist. then when October rolls around, the 4850x2 and 4870x2 will have there little secret enabled giving ATI the crown for a couple more months.

...and i thought the 8800gts 512 wasnt worth it over an 8800gt...
but this one takes the cake.
let's see, between 3.3% and 7.61% fps increase from the figures above.

No, U can say 9800GTX wasnt worth it over an 8800gts 512.
8800 GTS 512 looks to be an average of 15% faster than the 8800 GT, beats G80 GTX in 80% benches. and keep in mind silent effecient cooler on GTS. GTS is good overclocker.

Lol the single 4 games that nvidia does better than ATI and without AA too...
How close was I when I said 2-5% faster than current 260? :)

I'm not surprised either I expected this could have happened once again...

Go AMD! :) Once I get money, a new HD 4800 graphics card is on the shopping list.

Another card to the line up and more confusion to customers that have a 260GTX wondering why people have newer 260GTX's and not getting close to the same results. But for adding 12.5% more SP's and getting 2-4% in returns that is not good.
If anything RENAME the card nVidia.

What are people complaining about? It should cost the same once released.

Heh, if it wasn't for vantage and all that physx hocus pocus stuff, it wouldn't even see that much of a boost there.

Everyone would wish this was the case. But this nvidia..

This is just one preview. We should not make any conclusions just yet! Previews from websites like this are usually very unreliable and you guys should already know that.

the later gtx260 rev will be lucky to be 5% on average at a guess.
eol of older gtx 260's, or maybe a lucky dip with no name change

Well this could be a 280gtx with 1 disabled tpc. They didn't claim it was the gt206...

it would still have 28ROPS and 448-bit bus/ 896mb memory, and lower clocks, much more like a GTX260 9 tpcs active.

only a 0,8 - 8,5% performance increase? thats disapointing to say it nice, I was hoping for more.

And they're charging a premium over the slightly slower 260s for these? Uh, pass.
Chewbenator
09-10-2008, 04:55 PM
I don't think they will charge a premium, I think that the older 260s will just drop in price, and the newer ones will be kept up by demand. Kinda screws the customer who doesn't look, or doesn't know about the new one though. Still would get a 4870 if I had the money.

True, especially if you consider your local price, not always going with what happens in USA, HD 48xx series have been very2 competitive pricewise in my country since its launch.

Still would get a 4870 if I had the money.I'm gonna hold out until I see more official results, but I wouldn't call it screwing if a company releases a faster card within the same price bracket of the card it replaces. I'm sure people that spent $200 the Voodoo 2 ten years ago would LOVE it if that card was still the best you can buy for that price. That would be just about the biggest return-on-investment in computer history. Of course that wouldn't be very good for the advancement of graphics technology though.

Same here. The 9800GTX is even more expensive, and actually sells to retards because of that. :shakes:

Upgraded Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 GPU could cause overstock problems
To defend against AMD's high-end ATI Radeon HD 4870 GPU, Nvidia has recently launched an upgraded version of its GeForce GTX 260, however sources at graphics card makers are worried it could create overstock problems for previous version GeForce GTX 260 cards.
The upgraded GeForce GTX 260 features the D10U-102 core which is manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) using its 65nm process. The major difference is the new GPU has 216 stream processors, upgraded from 192. The two versions feature the same core and memory frequencies of 576MHz and 1,242MHz, respectively.
The sources expect the upgraded card will be priced close to the previous card, but since the upgraded card offers a 5-10% performance boost, it is expected to put the previous card in an awkward position.

Zotac Ready with GeForce GTX 260 (216 SP) Ampē!
NVIDIA is preparing the launch of a revised GeForce GTX 260 graphics processor that has 216 shader units. Early performance evaluations show that the card is NVIDIA's sharp retaliation to the Radeon HD 4870 GPU, and it manages to outperform it comprehensively (covered here (http://www.techpowerup.com/71319/GeForce_GTX_260_with_216_Stream_Processors_Picture d_Benchmarked.html)). Zotac is ready with a factory overclocked card based on the new GPU, The Zotac GeForce GTX 260 AMP2!. One way to differentiate this from the Amp! model based on the older GTX 260 core is the superscript "ē" next to "AMP".
The card continues to use two 6-pin PCI-Express power connectors, continues to have 896 MB of GDDR3 memory across a 448-bit wide memory bus. Clock speeds are stepped up. The speeds are 650 MHz / 1400 MHz / 1000 MHz (core/shader/memory) against the reference speeds of 576 MHz / 1242 MHz / 999 MHz. This product should be out by the end of this month.
