Hi,
Just took delivery of my SS Rotary unit and the head is dirty and damaged.
Can someone give me some advice on what materials to use to;
a) clean
b) repair the damage

Looks like a good lap job would do the trick. 220grit first for that obvious gouge then take it down with finer grit as far as you want.

ya sounds right to me just lap it up and you should be fine as it looks good to me but you should be able to get it so clean and polished to see your self in

i wouldn´t do anything
the scratch is far enough away from contact zone with the die.

It's called personal taste and up to you. Lap it out or run it, performance will be the same.

Let it be, it's far from the center, and the TIM will take care of it.

Hey!
I do this everytime. It don't make sense to polish a evap before brazing?!
Sometimes with refrigerant in the unit, most times without. I just do it with 400er paper, than with used 400 paper and oil. Not a mirror finish but enough.

No sense stressing the suction line with the motions of lapping, leave it be. As for lapping once the evap is brazed.. just braze a segment of copper pipe + capillary tubing, lap the evap, and then braze on the suction line :up:
