I`ve made some photos of dead hardware layin here and there. Check em out:

Why were the core's removed? And how is the 9500 mem refit working out?

We unsoldered the core to check whether it works or there is some other problem on this vid card. It was soldered on a 9700pro to check out whether the chip is dead or not.

The mem is workin not too bad. I managed to get 680 after resoldering. It did only 600 before with 3.6ns chips

To unsolder the gpu you need to put a lot of soldering liquid under the chip. When heated to 350-400 Celsius it comes off but the soldering liquid turns into some kinda tar which is really hard to clean off the card. The cleaning liquids usually damage the varnish that is above all pcb. On Triplex Ti4600 it even took off the silver coating from pcb. We decided not to clean the card because it was dead already.

Sorry for my bad technical english. I dont know whether the terms i used are really correct :) Ask if you didn`t get smth...

There were not enough heatsinks though, so some were bought for the logo. They are dirt cheap and never here when you need em, you know...

Some was burnt, some was bought dead as a spare parts, some was stolen from dead comps. As i said - layin here and there :)

You resoldered the core onto a 9700 pcb?!?!

Did it work!??!?!

I wonder if the 9800 is just slightly newer chip design and a bios upgrade, then??

STEvil, it should have woked but it didn`t because the 9800 core was dead. 9700 and 9800 cores are compatible like most other parts on these cards are swappable. Theroretically its possible to make a Radeon9500 ?? 9800XT PCB, but we dont have an XT yet :/

hmm....

I want to flash my 9700 to a 9800, but I dont know if its worth the risk of the cary not working/dieing.. 8-/

St Evil, i flashed my 9500 with everything except nvidia bios. Flashing is fun. 9800 bios works but it doesn`t do any good on R300 chip. You may flash it. It will work.

I didnt do any testing vs. at the same clocks, but the extra ram speed by sticking with a 9700 bios is worth it... 8-)
