well you need to have a Bluetooth receiver in you computer for it too work.thats how it works on the ps3. i dont think you can use the cable with it, cause i think it only use is to charge to controller

I treid with my neighbours setup, couldn't get it to work. We got the pc to see the controller but we couldn't get any buttons working, I think it uses bt to establish a connection but then gives a device specific handshake and waits for the proper return. If the return does not come (pc for instance) or is wrong, it keeps the connection open but doesn't transmit any button signals.

yea, like i said before, you have to have a BT Receiver in order for it to give the handshake back

No, after that handshake :)

Like I said iirc we got the bt connection established alright but pressing buttons just didn't transmit any signals from the controller to the pc after the connection had been made.

That points me to believe it uses an extra handshake after that, to make sure it's connected with a ps3 and nothing else.

Plug it in via USB then install this: http://news.filefront.com/how-to-use-a-ps3-controller-on-a-pc/
Tried it and it worked:)
used it to play Resi 4 on pc

Anyone knows if this only makes it work with the cable or that BT works after this has been done once to? I will probably test this next week sometime for myself :)

that driver makes it work with xp 32bit, and it dosnt do anything to the controller

Lol  at 'does nothing to the controller'

Mhm I need a vista capable driver for it if I where to make my neighbour happy. I'm still pretty sure they added an additional handshake after the bluetooth connect, and someone with the right equipment could monitor the bt traffic when a connection with a pc is made and when a connection with a ps3 is made so they could make something which emulates that handhake maybe?? That was my biggest hope.

vista has problems that u need signed drivers and MS wont let sony make drivers

If I disable driver signing I still can't use the xp driver :)

And, I thought it was Sony who doesn't want their controllers to be used on the pc, not MS not allowing them to be used on the pc

if sony didnt want them then they wouldent make it be able to connect with USB for anything but charging, and the controllers wouldent work in linux

They work in Linux?? That's good news :)

I'll check that out to. Thanks zanzabar.

i had 1 set work in vista 32 but it was kinda useless since the analogue didnt work (sticks and shoulders), so i went and got the 360 controller even though i dont really like it (and dont say there are PS like ones, teh RP2 has square stick holes and mad cats dont work right, and others dont do vista 64)

Why are those movies showing working analouge's? then? Looks like it should be working but every movie I see is using usb. I want to be able to use the wireless function :(

It's looking pretty bad for my believe in this :)

this looks like it makes sence, i have vistax64 but im going to try any way;
"VISTA USERS:
64 bit is not supported, you have to hope that both libusb and the sixaxis loaded get updated (which isn’t looking likely)
32 bit there is a workaround, here’s how to do it:
1- download the package (http://dl.qj.net/SIXAXIS-driver-for-PC-PlayStation-3/pg/12/fid/11679/catid/518)
2- unpackage the files to somewhere you will keep them.
3- if you have previously installed it, make sure you delete the files C:\Windows\System32\libusb0.dll and C:\Windows\System32\drivers\libusb0.sys. This applies even if you uninstalled it already.
4- right click the installer (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe), go to the compatibility tab, and choose XP SP2 compatibility.
5- right click the installer and run it as administrator.
6- when the installer is done you can plug your controller in
7- run ps2sixaxis_en.exe
8- press the PS button a few times, and it should now work.

General tips:
* You have to run ps2sixaxis_en.exe every time windows starts (I just put a shortcut to it in my start menu -> startup)
* Remember that if your PS3 is nearby you have to turn it off at the switch or wall
* I read that some games will recognise the left stick as a joystick, although I haven’t tried it out yet
* Don’t use the latest libusb, it doesn’t work with ps2sixaxis_en.exe and it gives you a BSOD every time you shutdown.

Spread the word:
Not many people know how to get it working on Vista - it took me a bit of trial and error to make it work. If you know people/boards who need this info copy/paste it to them. It’ll only take you a few seconds. "

Again, this ONLY gives you USB connectivity right?

Monkeywoman

Yup, no BT support yet, and tbh i dont think it'll ever work

I don't get it if someone was able to complete a bt connection in linux, that means they have 'looked' at the ps3 responce and copied that. Why can't the same be done for windows? Someone should talk with the guy who did the linux hack.

heres where i got, but no response when i pushed the buttons. someone sould mod the 32 bit drivers to work with 64, or better yet Microsoft stops being gay and release some real drivers.

MonkeyWoman that was exactly how far I came before as well iirc, I remember the buttons doing nothing at all but the controller being recognized.
