They are awesome!

Where did you learn to do all that neat stuff?!

And in what program?!

I seriously would love to be able to do half that stuff.

I use photoshop , jake. I have been using PS for about 6-8 months and have done alot of tutorials and read or watched hundreds of tutorials. I am a huge fan of german gamesite artists and recently became a member of gui station where lance thackery is, lance is phenomenal. I started doing gfx with the free program Paint.Net and after about 6 months or so graduated to ps.

I have an art forum where I have listed many of my photoshop tutorials links.

You're using way too many of the boxed effects such as bevel and emboss. Try to create similar, but more realistic visuals with layers rather than effects. For example, a better way to create a shadow is generally not to use the drop shadow tool. To get a more realistic shadow, instead try duplicating the layer, making the background layer black (adjust levels and brightness), then using a guassian blur and adjusting the layers position to give you the desired shadow.

The same tricks can be done to create a 3 dimensional look that is far more realistic than beveling.

most of the gradients arent "boxed" but thanks for the pointers anyway :D

I think they look great, but I'm not sure they would fit here, xs has always been very simplistic, one reason why I like the layout more than other forums

thats not the point Ali. This is a photoshop area and this is photoshop gfx work. thats it .

Actually Jake, starting with simpler things like PDN is a good idea since the tutorials at their forums are, for the most part better thought out and condensed to mostly bieng there. There are some fantastic PDN users like pyjo and ash. Overall its a pretty good community but I did ditch them after a few buddies went in and got flamed for asking for help. Meh it serves its purpose. I think they put in anti noob flame rules after I bailed.

thanks for the props man :D

Calling it a final , the original is too asymmetrical to duplicate exactly, I think its awesome for my first ever car art. Pretty stoked about it really.

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x56/verndewd/GC.jpg

which one is the original?

I'd say the left one, the right one needs some anti aliasing/feathering/gaussian blurring, also the lighting and reflection are more refined/accurate on the left one.

Both are pretty good nonetheless.

Wow. Great stuff. I hope these themes aren't accessed on anything less than a T1 connection.

I like the last one. Did you make the concrete background from scratch?
And for the EA logo & microphones is it the same texture? I'm curious how you applied the shadowing and reflections around the edges of the mesh to give it depth.

verndewd
10-29-2008, 08:27 PM
depth is through layering, and its only heavy theme stuff if you dont reduce the quality to a reasonable amount. The "concrete was brushing and style work , so yes from scratch.

Thanks for the props man.

Also if I were in japan these could be full png quality because americas internet infrastructure is so lagging in technology they need near 16 bit color quality to be " fast". to which I say blow me you pocket raping corporate fags :D 3rd world countries have better internet and were the big dogs on the planet? moo

These are all really great, a bit more towards the EA logo idea, I think you could do better with more natural effects, these buttons, boxes and color schemes and patterns arent conistant through some of them.

But again, your skill is growing as you can tell with your art.

great job though!!!
