Hey guys, I just got all the parts for my new build, and I was wondering, since I have the PC P&C 1KW multi-rail psu, if I decide to get a 2nd video card, should I upgrade to the Single Rail 1KW, or 1.2KW version? My comp specs are:

Q9650
Asus Rampage Extreme
Sapphire Radeon HD4870 X2 (I would get another one of these)
4GB Mushkin DDR3-1600 (7-7-6-18)
SB X-Fi
14 case fans
2 optical drives
5 HDDs

You kidding? You have 1000 watts of power, I don't think it even matters.

Hehe, I just wanted to make sure, mainly because of the amperage draw on the rails, I wanted to make sure I wouldn't overload em with a 2nd 4870 x2.

Why do you have 14 case fans??? I'd bet my left kidney your case could be ventilated just as well with 4 at the max.

Dude , 14 case fans ? I have 8 and I feel that my case is a small room tornado creator. What are cooling with it , also the cables and the cold air even more ? :hehe:

were there problems with early multirail pcp&c psu's...? leading to the myth that all multirail psu's were bad?

what's the 12v amps ratings on yr current psu?

First things first: that unit will be able to power your system with ease and have enough room to spare.

Second: what is the point in having two 4870x2's, unless you are going for a 30" + monitor/TV you wont really benefit from it at current, common, resolutions of 1920X1200, probably not even with a 24" + monitor.

third: If you have, like many others, have the idea that a power supply with multiple 12V rails is better (stable, and more reliable) then a power supply with one 12V rails. You are wrong. Well at least semi-wrong. :)

See what you first have to realize is that a power supply with multiple 12V rails in fact is just a power supply with one large 12V rail, yet some of the outputs are split up. That is where "amps" comes into play.

A unit with very little amps on a 12V rail can be somewhat of a problem. Some computer parts might need more power withdraw from the 12V rail but it has an output cap. So just make sure the 12V rail has enough amps so that the part does not exceed the output (somewhere along the lines of 25A +)

But if you have a unit with one large 12V rail with a high number of amps (55A+) you know your comuter wont have a problem drawing the current needed to work properly
