Now testing >300fsb issues:

Seems P4C800-E doesn't like 5:4 divider at >293fsb for OCZ PC3700 Gold memory, it freezes in test #6 in memtest86

changed to 3:2 divider and i'm memtesting right now at 316fsb @ 3795mhz

trying to work out the right vcore right now but it can boot into memtest86 @ 321fsb at 1.775 - 1.825v vcore but once reaches 1st pass of test #4 it reboots itself (P4C800-E watch dog app doing it's work)

Tried to boot into windows @ 313 - 315fsb but winxp complained that the ATI control panel /driver were missing ? Set to default speeds booted into windows and looked into my event viewer and it said the ATI driver (cat 3.7) was stuck in and infinite loop

Any ideas ?

My first idea would be to change thier pci/agp divider to go over 300fsb.....like wee have to ;)

heheheheeh

TodB
10-02-2003, 02:11 AM
Yep, right there Creative :D

For a stable system over 305FSB i needed that 72/36 AGP/PCI... that solve the problems for me, think wiill do good for ya too ;)

eva2000
10-02-2003, 04:45 AM
i guess 72/36 AGP/PCI works good :)

301fsb at 1.775v vcore bios or 1.664v under load

http://www.fileshosts.com/pentium4/D1/asus/p4c800e_results/prometia/ocz/pc3700gold/301-200-2337-8-7.8-STD-1.775v-1.7v/cpuz.jpg

evap temp idle = -55C to -53C

starting Prime95 v23.7

evap temp at load = -43C to -42C

http://www.fileshosts.com/pentium4/D1/asus/p4c800e_results/prometia/ocz/pc3700gold/301-200-2337-8-7.8-STD-1.775v-1.7v/prime95_start2.jpg

now to work my way up :)

how did you mod your prommie?

eva2000

mods? don't have any mods it's stock prommy mach2 :)

TodB
10-02-2003, 05:56 AM
Damn! You got like 30C difference between CPU idle and load!? And about 35C difference between evap head and the CPU die?

WOW, that's too much I should say.... is this normal for a Prommie?!? I got no more than 13-15C difference with my Classic...

Interesting thread guys. I've got a very similar setup.

you get -55°C idle???? i thougt its impossible ... the coolant in the prommie cant get that cold...

phil stanbridge
10-02-2003, 07:36 AM
Well I get -49 idle tops.

Colin
10-02-2003, 07:36 AM
What type of Northbridge cooling are you using? My IS7 with the stock cooler only hits 312 MHz FSB but when I watercool it, I can go to 317 MHz FSB.

Max I can do with PAT disabled and 3-4-4-8 timings on my XMS3500 CAS2 DIMMM's is 326 MHz FSB but the memory is holding me back I'm positive!

Colin - that is very impressive mate, especially the volts. I had to stuff mine with 1.9 to get a similar overclock. FWIW, I have tried watercooling the northbridge but I wasn't happy with the cable-ties solution to hold it all down, so I resorted to a Vantec Tornado @ 7v. Seemed to do the trick.

saaya
10-02-2003, 07:45 AM
you get -55°C idle with almost 1.8v? and 3.65ghz? whats your room temp? 5°C?

eva2000
10-02-2003, 09:19 AM
Guys i don't think my mbm5 reported temps can be trusted read http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20054 i got +105C load temps and -128C load temps in the same prime95 session hehe

my evap temps are always the same lowest i've seen idle is -58C and under load lowest is -42C - room temps range from 23-28C during day and 18-26C at night.

my P4C800-E NB is unmodded stock paste under the NB heh but i have modded a PCI slot cover + a 80x25mm sunon 49cfm fan blowing over it - before it was very hot now cool to touch

pics of NB cooled

10-02-2003, 09:25 AM
Eva, interesting. I see you've removed the heatsink from the northbridge - does this actually help? I've got a vantec tornado blowing over my heatsink. Should I remove it? Have you got anything under that 80mm fan at all?

Creative
10-02-2003, 09:31 AM
I think he got about 15fsb more with that huge delta blowing on the board :D
hgehehehe

For the record, my prommy sits at about -40load when 3dmarking at 4ghz and 1.70vcore and -38ish when priming and idles at -52ish also....with ambients of 21dc......and I have good contact cos my cpu temps according to mbm are around -18 to -15 load and -30ish at idle

I assume they are correct? I have remounted about 10 times now with 2 different boards, so about 5 times each board...and ive been getting very consistent results...so either Im doing it wrong everytime....or else thats just what the systems temps are according to the various probes.....

now whether they are right or not is another question I dont even want to ask :p:
hehehehehe

Colin
10-02-2003, 09:32 AM
eva2000 I'm not sure if your NB cooling is very efficient... If I were you I'd move hte fan to the side a few cm. As it is right now, the Northbrige doesnt' get as much airflow as it could because it's in the center of the fan (kinda like being in the eye of a hurricane).

I did the same thing on my IS7 but it didn't seem to help much but then again the IS7 has active cooling.

Thanks for the kind words phil stanbridge! :D I wish I had better memory...

eva2000
10-02-2003, 09:33 AM
no no.. NB heatsink is intact, stock unmodded - as i don't want to void the warranty :)

was going to do what i did on my 4PCA3+ NB (stock unmodded too) was to add a 60x25mm or 60x38mm 50+ cfm fan

http://www.fileshosts.com/pentium4/D1/epox/4pca3+/nb_60mm/web/60mm_sunnon_13.JPG

but bit hard with the board mounted vertically right now.. but the 80x25mm sunon 49cfm is doing a good job... might change it for my 80x25mm TT Smartfan2 75cfm fan later

Colin, try a fan over to the left of the socket on those fets there....u might get 1-2fsb more.....helped me ;)

hmmm that's interesting again Colin. I didn't think about airflow restrictions. So what is the best northbridge cooling option in your opinion? Other than something way off like vapo cooling it :p: It's just that mine is getting incredibly hot to the touch, with my 2.4, even after half hour or so.

ROFL 5 POSTS IN LIKE 3 MINS OF EACHOTHER   hehe ... well i'm in denial.. i'd like to believe i have a super prommy and MBM5 is reporting wrong temps for cpu under load :D :o

i'll find out after a few mounts anyway

i can bend the pci slot cover further down so it shortens the length to move the fan more to the left :)

Creative thanks for the heads up I'll give that a shot tonight when I get home from work! :D

phil stanbridge if you're looking at air cooling that Swiftech Northbrige cooler is mighty tempting. Too bad they're gouging with the price though. :(

I'm currently using the DD Z-Chip and it's working very well. I'm thinking about getting rid of that thing and getting a MCW50-T. :D

well Creative's copy of MBM5 seem to have fixed the high cpu temp reported in mbm5 under load!

2.4C @ 2400mhz at 1.525v
testing with 2x Prime95 v23.7 instances max heat torture test

with my MBM5 5.3.4.0
cpu idle: -39C to -36C
cpu load: -8 to -4C (note i get same load temps even @3616 with 1.775v)

with Creative's MBM5 5.3.4.0 files
cpu idle: -39C to -38C
cpu load: -26C to -23C

i'm confused as i checked Creative's settings and the cpu temp setting sensor is same as mine

Now have to test to see if i get that abnorm +105C cpu temp reported heh

eva2000
10-02-2003, 07:28 PM
yay Creative's copy of MBM5 5.3.4.0 seem to have fixed the +105C cpu temp while running 2x prime95 v23.7 + super pi 16m - throughout the session cpu load temp was between -26C and -23C :)

yeah it is weird...

well tried 303fsb/202mem and it booted into windows but the boot time was slow as hell - ran sandra mem benchies fine but slow loading the program - then when i went to run cpu benchmarks ATI drive reports device failure in the driver and windows reverts to 640x480 res @4k lol

You guys are noticing major differences in OC just by the NB, I never thought it playd that big of a role with that new Max3 cooler on it... but mine does get very warm after about 30 minutes @ 275fsb 5:4... The swiffy MCX-159 is coming in a couple days, Ill let you know if it helps

just changed my pci slot fan over NB for a 80x25mm TT Smartfan2 75cfm fan and angled it towards the NB for better airflow

You got some mad ghetto skills eva, I like the mounting action. :D

The MBM 5 thing has happened to me, insane temps until I deleted the config and reconfigured it, sometimes it picks up slightly wrong settings on installation, and that's not even taking into account the mad selection boxes and stuff it pops up during installation now.

If it ever happens again, just uninstall it and reinstall with a fresh config, works for me every time.

Disabling ACPI and APIC may get rid of the infinite loop problem m8 - give it a whirl. Be best off doing a new windows install to match it.

Make sure ACPI 2.0 is disabled in bios too :).

PiLsY.

I didnt actually find an option for this in bios with the Asus...is it there eva?

ALso are you still getting the control panel losing focus after upping the agp/pci etc? Cos I stopped getting it after upping it :)

305+ needs my agp/pci to be at 36/72.....;)

3:2 divider allowed me to move past 293fsb 5:4 barrier to in memtest86 and 72/36 allowed me max i can boot into winxp stable is 301fsb at 3:2 without ATI control panel /driver crapping out on me

Just installed my APC UPS's software which is

my UPS as the pc + prommy mach2 connected to it and looks like i'm using 536W of power in this setup - lucky prommy doesn't use the PSU power!

http://www.fileshosts.com/pentium4/D1/asus/p4c800e_results/prometia/ocz/pc3500gold/300-200-2336-8-15.8-STD-1.775v-1.8v-72-36/cpuz2.jpg

edit: after running prime a bit longer power consumption went from 476W to 536W ... which would give me only 9min on backup power - but i have an external battery on order to triple the capacity so 27-30mins of power @3600mhz with 536W :D

so means if Prommy Mach2 max power consumption is 200W
pc is using 536W - 200 = 336W of power :)
