Hi I would just like to say that Im kinda new member to XS but I read it every day and I have found alot of help to my problems from this forums and for some time I have been thinking about all this WCG stuff but haven't got to it yet because I was kinda unsure about the whole thing because you guys have big and shiny crunchers and Im unable to provide that much :( untill today when I saw this post:
First Thank you.
I just read through this thread and you said it very well.
Yes, there are some "heavy hitters" here and God bless them for what they bring to the cause but in my mind this is a team of people that I call "Good hearts" because of what is inside them.
That wanting to do something to help others even though it does bring a cost with it.
We all do what we can whether it's one machine or 101..
There is no difference in what is inside the persons heart just what their financial ability is.
That is why the guy with his older P4 or A64 rig is just as welcome here as the guy with his new QX9650 rig.
When I see posts here I don't see numbers but a person.
I've learned that in this life there are the "me" people and the "us" people.
The me people would screw over their families to get ahead.
Not the way I want to live my life.
I've passed on a lot of opportunities in this life where I could have made lots of money but at someone elses expense.
I may struggle at times to pay the bills but I don't have to worry about who I screwed over yesterday in pursuit of the immortal buck.
Now as to this team, 4 mill or 44 mill a day is really irrelevant.
If we are all doing what we can as individuals then that is what counts and in the end we will get the job done.
The only thing I'm sorry about is that I didn't find this place years ago as this is the best group of people I've ever been ascoiated with.
So from thist point on Ill leave my work comp crunch 24/7 and hopefully I will sooner or later buy a cruncher to contribute some more for good cause :)
ps. Sorry for the typos Im supposed to be working ;)

Think on it this way;
Every day we try to fill this big barrel up with knowledge gained from running the work units.
Some people come and toss in a "gallon" of knowledge, some toss in a pint and some just a few ounces but it is all of us working together that get the job done. No one person makes it happen my friend, it is all of us together.
That is why although you will see a lot of teasing here you will never see people saying "Well I do more than you, or you only do this amount"
That's little kids schoolyard BS and it has no place here.
We work together as friends with a common goal and that goal is in finding cures for these diseases.
The cure matters, who finds it doesn't.
I think you'll fit in nicely here.
Now please, destroy all your credit cards..

You have to understand that while everyone is sincere about finding a cure for disease, the reason some of us spend thousands of dollars on hardware is the same reason some guys buy big, throbbing sports cars or huge hand canons with long, glistening barrels and incredible penetration. Do you see where I'm going with this? :D ;)
So from thist point on Ill leave my work comp crunch 24/7 and hopefully I will sooner or later buy a cruncher to contribute some more for good cause :)

Hmmm, I'm guessing sooner rather than later. As a fellow addict, I can see the early signs.
Work is important. Not for the satisfaction it gives you or the pride of contributing to your community, but as the only legal means of getting more hardware. You don't want to end up like some of the guys here who are living in cardboard boxes - just like their rigs.  :D

Everyone contributes on this team in the way that they can. It could be the slowest computer in the world that hits that magic work unit and finds the cure. So please feel at home here and we appreciate the fact that you want to join our team.
Now @ 64dragon,
After reading your "Rules of XS", I have put you down for SEVERAL sessions to discuss this deluded rule #2. :ROTF:

I and others have said it time and time again.
Its not how many CPus you have crunching (though we pick on each other and urge others on) but it is the fact that you have even a few cycles going.
Some of the team have single or a dual core, hell some may even still have Athlons going.
Yes many of us with 1 or more q cores talk crap, but in no way do we look down on others with less, we are all on the same basic level.
Trying to help others.
I have seen big gestures of selfless giving from others on this team, and that quality of character is what defines the team, not the number of CPUs each of us do or don't have.
We are a brother/sisterhood of giving individuals that give what we can, when we can.
Even if your only getting 100pts a day, if you have knowledge to share with others, can get others you know to crunch (Dave is our unofficial official mascot and recruiter) that is still a contribution to the project and the team.

Unless Dave has some . . . uh, compromising photos of you, how bad could it be? But if you do change it and something bad happens, we never had this conversation. ;) :D
Dave, honest, I don't know what happened. Somebody must have jacked my id. One of the guys - can't remember who - said they needed an extra sign on for a few hours.
