As I understand it, R290a is 99.5% Isopropane and .5% Isobutane. R290 is just generic propane. Your generic propane contains a generally unknown amount of butane anyway.

NO R290a is a mixture with butane R-290 is 100% pure propane. What most use here is R-290bbq which is generic propane ;)

Didnt you tell me a long time ago if I use propane then I would need a liquid line drier-type thing to filter out all the impurities in propane?
sig'd :)
Why?

yes r290bbq :p: isn't usually the cleanest of propane and often contains small amounts of moisture

Normally in refrigerant nomenclature the letter behind the r-number indicates the molecular configuration, if there is more than one possibility. see r134a or r600a.

Propane is propane. There is no Isopropane as it has only 3 carbon atoms and the molecule can be arranged in one way only. With 4 C-atoms, you can arrange it in two different ways, making butane and isobutane.

If this was adressed to me, i know :)
In this case however, it is a little bit confusing and irritating, because the letter does not correspond to the notation scheme...
