Hello i have just setup my new computer with this setup. The first time i turned it on, i got a screen with all the details, and then it said something - please continue then it went to a black screen. I waited a while and nothing happened so i turned the PC off. Now when i turn on the computer, everything powers ok, however my monitor doesnt detect anything - it stays on standby not showing anything although the PC is running, with the motherboard showing FF and nothing more. I dont know what to do.

SPEC:
Intel Core2Quad Q6600
XFX 790i Motherboard
Etasis 750W PSU
BFG 9800GTX+ OC
Samsung 400GB HD

hi man.....welcome to XS forum :D

Can you try to another VGA to see if the monitor is the problem....or the vga.

Another thing can be the BIOS, but is not likely because that chip must have full support on Q6600....

Thanks for the welcome. I dont have any other graphics card so i can't use another VGA. I have tried taking the GFX card out and see if the motherboard gives any beeps/changes from FF to something else, but its still the same. Any other ideas? Thanks

I got a few =P jejeje

Well, you can try the VGA, memorys and CPU in to another mobo. So that way you can see if the problem is the mobo or another hardware......

I don´t now that PSU...can you tell me something else???

PD: do you connect the 12v AUX????

my PSU:
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?type=3&id=118&page=1&desc=etasis_et750_750w_quad-sli_psu

24pin and 8pin power. I have disconnected everything on my motherboard, leaving just the CPU, PSU and Heatsink on. Still nothing..

I dont have another motherboard to test my hardware on - sorry

Remove the power to the system. Remove the silver CMOS battery from the board for 15 seconds. Put the battery back in the system and power it on.

Is it instant FF or does it go through a bunch of codes before FF? Can you try another power supply?

try to erease the BIOS........if that fails, I do not really know what could be.

PD: send the mobo to RMA..........

I have no other PSU so i cant try another PSU. I have set the jumper to pins 1 and 2, taken the battery out for 30mins, then placed the battery back into the mobo and placed the jumper in pin 2 and 3. Still the same problem..

I turn it on and its FF and stays like that - so i guess its an instant FF

I really don't want to RMA the board :(.

Oh come on don't say that. I didnt even do anything, it cant die just like that O.O. All 3 LED's are showing and fans etc run fine...

Its an expensive motherboard. Surely it can't die by a press of a button

Yes men you´r right.....but maybe the mother come die from factory....

And if you can´t test the other hardware to check them.........theres nothing else to do.....

Come on......you dont have any friend that can help you to test the other hardware??? the cpu? memory? PSU???

Instant FF shouldn't be memory. It would be a CPU power issue, grounding issue, BIOS issue, or a CPU issue. Probably not the fourth.

Set the board up on the box it came in so that there is no chance of grounding on the case. If your CPU cooler uses a retention bracket than make sure it is not on too tight and make sure it is either plastic or insulated. If it is metal and isn't insulated than remove the bracket and just hold the CPU cooler on with your finger. If at all possible try another PSU. Last resort, try removing the CPU and make sure non of the pins are bent in the socket. They shouldn't be if it booted up at all but I guess on that was slightly bent and barely touching the contact on the CPU could slip from the contact.

If all you ever get is instant FF than the BIOS ROM will probably be the issue and will need to be replaced. If you are in North America than make a support ticket at http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/Help/Support.aspx and PM me the ticket number and I can get an RMA issued for the board. Make sure that you fill in your account information.

The UK warranty should be handled through retailer. I believe that is how it usually happens. If they aren't able to help you than still make a support ticket and the European support team should be able to help you.

I should be able to help with anything that happens in Latin America but the warranty is the same as the UK in that you should check with your retailer about warranty replacements first. If you just have questions I don't mind helping anyone in the world regardless of location or brand. I am just here to help.

New problem - when connecting any wire from the case e.g. POWER SW or RESET SW then the motherboard gives the FF and hangs. Any fix for this (except buying a new case). Thanks

PS: I notice as soon as i turn the PSU on (switch at back) the PC turns on. Is there a setting i can do so on/off comes from the case and not straight from PSU

There should be an option in the BIOS under Power Management for Power on after power failure. If you turn that off than it will not turn on when you turn on the power supply.

Are you sure that you are connecting the cables to the correct header? The Power_SW goes to the two red headers. Reset goes to blue.

Have you tried bridging the two red headers with a screwdriver to verify that there is not an issue with the headers?

i found that when RESET SW cable is in, it causes the motherboard to hang in FF. So i have left the reset cable out. Now a new problem -.-. When installing windows XP X64 i get a blue screen. It has a loong error 00x00e... something like that. What to do now? Thanks!

Forget to add this to my spec:
OCZ 2GB DDR3 PC3-10666C7 (2 x 1GB)

Copy down the exact stop error. If you are far enough in to the install that you can get the advanced starup menu by tapping F8 before Windows stars loading than select Disable restart on system failure and copy the message down.

Download memtest86 from memtest.org and burn it to a CD. Boot to the CD and let it run through at least 2 passes. If you can do it over night. See if there are any faulty sectors in that memory.

XFX Tech........I was talking with ya1theman by MSN, and he tell me the "error" is for the HDD........... :s :s Maybe he is using a bad configuration on the SATA and that maybe be the problem........ dont you think?

I only get up to 'setup is loading windows' after loading ikernal and all that stuff, then screen flashes and blue screen -.-. The code is:
STOP:0x0000007B (0xFFFFFADFC8E323C0,0xFFFFFFFFC0000034,0x000000000 0000000,x0000000000000000)

It says something about scanning for viruses and removing and new hard drives before that error.

ill do memtest now
memtest passed 100%

If you haven't already than update to the latest BIOS for the 780i. It is available at http://www.xfxsupportb.co.uk/XFX_780i_P07_ISO.zip.

That board comes with 6 SATA cables. Try a different cable. How many drives do you have? Are you running anything special like RAID? What kind of drives are they?

Every hard drive manufacturers has a scan utility that you can burn to a CD and run a test on the hard drive. Visit your hard drive manufacturer’s site and download their utility and run it on your drive. The most common are SeaTools (http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools) for Seagate and Data Lifeguard (http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp) for Western Digital. Other hard drive companies will have their own utility to use. Download the utility and burn it to a CD. I always recommend doing it from a DOS mode. Run through the scan and make sure that your hard drive checks out.

I have RAID Disabled and the HD is connectied via SATA. I have a 790i not a 780i - should i just update to p06 by burning the file onto cd and loading. I dont want the bios update to fail - ive heard there been problems with the bios and quad core CPU's, and tat u need the latest nvidia drivers. I will try to run a scan and let you know

Downloaded EStools for samsung HD. I burned the iso image, it loads some stuff then has a message talking about the product being free and is not warrantied, and it hangs at that. Doesn't load anything so i cant run any diagnostics. Changing sata connector and socket didnt do anything for the blue screen either...

Do you try what I tell you yesterday??? Connect de HDD in SATA1 and check the config of SATA in the BIOS (NON RAID). Then try to instal the o.s.......

Ok guys i think most of these errors have been cos of dodgy wiring. I removed the HD sata and put it in 1. No luck. However i removed the CDRW SATA and put it in sata 2. Now windows was loading 'properly' - i noticed when it said on POST CD BOOT:
Then it said setup is inspecting hardware
now its copy xp files - no more blue screen :D. Ill let you know how it goes :D. Thanks for the help
