View Full Version : 4870 BIOS Voltage?

Seems there are some differing posts in terms of whether or not voltage mods via BIOS work at all for the 4870, or as some people have said only work up to a certain amount (I saw 1.28x volts in one thread during my search). Can some of you exceptionally experienced folks chime in -- is voltage moddable via BIOS for the 4870 w/ RBE or is it ineffective?
Thanks much.

It works, but only with this one single BIOS. Read here.. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=196721
New BIOS enters on post #37.
Keep on your mind that it also overclocks the card, and is not able to lower voltages as well. Also, you are fixed to this new voltage.
As an info, you'll get about +0,02V under load compared to stock BIOS.
Enjoy!

I still have the original .exe file, will upload it in a second..
Here: http://rapidshare.com/files/140718846/ATIHD4870512MBOCX795-1100MHz.zip.html
Original exe, and txt file which has original post, my post asking if he can confirm where he got it, and his reply (got it from Diamond btw, not ATi, my mistake there, but this is fine as well, it's still official source).
EDIT: If it gets deleted by rapid, just personal msg me and I'll reupload any time..

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I'm guessing a .02V increase is going to do next to nothing for my overclock. Wish there was a simple software mod for it. :(
I read through that entire thread -- I wonder if the BIOS only makes voltage changes on Diamond cards? Also does it mod the memory voltage? Mine can only do 1025 on the mem w/ water and stock volts, so I'd have to underclock the card w/ the Diamond XOC modded BIOS right?

Nope, it mods any cards voltages, well, those that are based on 4870 reference design. I have Club3D card.

Did you notice any vmem increases? And how about stability w/ this BIOS? Also How does one flash back if I had a problem?

I have barely used it, just to run several benches and measure voltages. Had no problems whatsoever, neither with drivers or any other kind. Didn't measure vmem, sorry :(
Btw, if you do have problems, just flash back your original BIOS.. you can save original with GPUZ before flashing this one, and later can use either atiflash or atiwinflash to flash it back, no problems.

Thanks for linking me to that thread -- I flashed yesterday and I've been running my mem 300MHz (effective) faster than my previous o/c with no problems so far. Using same core speed, will up the core speed after I'm sure 1100MHz is stable as-is.

np, post results once you find your new stable OC :)

The core didn't increase, but the mem went from 1025-1100.

Hmmm.. that's odd :D Should be GPU voltage, not memory.. :) But I've heared weirder things happening..
