I just put my new 2.4C system together and the temps are showing higher at stock settings then they were on my 3000+ that was oc'd :(. I'm idling right now at 38C cpu, and 25C system. This is even more strange since i'm using an slk-947U and 92mm tornado on this one.

13C difference is definitely high for idle stock temps with a 947. I can only offer the generalized advice: make sure the hs is seated correctly, that there's not too much TIM, that the fan is actually running at high rpm, etc.

Otherwise maybe the BIOS is overreporting the temperature.

or your NF7 shows a low temp.

i was going by motherboard monitor and the bios. yeah I kinda had a hard time installing the heatsink, which was the first board mounted one i've used. I didn't really understand how to do it and posted here earlier but didn't get much help :(.

Yeah, I saw that post but I have never installed that type of mounted hs either so didn't have anything useful to contribute. I am considering a 947 myself, guess I should figure it out eventually heh.

Check the heatsink for proper contact by removing it and seeing what the footprint looks like from the TIM. Make sure you are geting proper contact and also that you didn't put too much on. Make sure that your fan is blowing down not sucking.

as long as the springs compress you have at least some good contact.

I would pull the hs off and check to make sure your processors IHS isnt concave or convex, and also dont tighten the screws right to the extreme bottom. Tighten them down, then back off 1/16th or a turn or so, because when you run out of spring it will pull unevenly and harder if one is tightened more than the rest...

k i'm now running at 3187 1.575v as reported by cpu-z. At this speed MBM is reporting idle temps of 38C cpu and 24C system. Don't those just seem way off? The distance was similar on my AMD as well.
