Anyone try method #2 for raising CCC max levels with any success? Particularly with a 4850 bios?

Ive used it with the RBE 1.13 but with RBE 1.14 the new 8.8 drivers dont seem to like it.

did anyone try the fan settings set to "set all fan settings do recommended values" with a 4850? looks way better than the default values of the sapphire bios...

Agreed, RBE 1.14 with BIOS 010.081.001.000 doesn't work for overclocking. Plus Catalyst 8.7 and 8.8 don't support quad-card CrossfireX anyway, they pulled support for CrossfireX over more than 2 cards, effectively screwing me and anyone else who built a quad card rig based on the K9A2 Platinum motherboard. Catalyst 8.6 is the last driver to support it. AMD tech support is fairly useless in trying to answer why it was removed, or if it is a bug. They just seem to avoid the issue in my open ticket which has been open for weeks now without any resolution.
With Catalyst 8.8 and my quad 3870 cards, I used the method #1 to change the max overdrive values. In the CCC however when I try to modify the values, they snap right back to where they were, so I can't change them. Very frustrating. I'm going back to 8.6 hotfix where I know I can use REAL Quad CrossfireX on 4 3870s at 1000/1275. Let us know if they find a solution to either of these issues!

no it's not, u can edit your desired 3D speed w/ RBE only if u use an bios version above 0.71 but u must not change any other settings in RBE, just edit your 3d speed. (be sure your card can handle it before)

Well with Catalyst 8.6 (Hotfix) I am back to quad crossfirex on 4x 3870 cards o/c to 1000/1275 with Overdrive. 8.6 doesn't seem to be as picky about the signature stuff and I used 010.078.000.000 BIOS and tweaked more than just the 3d clock (I adjusted the voltages so at idle I run at 1.4V and at full speed 1.675V, with the hardware mods), so I guess I'm stuck on Catalyst 8.6 forever (it seems to be a very stable driver revision anyway, only minor artifacts in 3dMark Vantage around flags and tarps flapping, looking unnatural, I'm sure if I turn off Crossfire entirely it goes away; I know it still happens in 2-card more even with 8.8). Plus with quad 3870 crossfire support taken out in Cat 8.7 or later, I have no reason to upgrade now. :| I will keep bothering AMD about it though!
Hi
I was try to update the bios of my Gigabyte 4850 card with know bios versions which was updated here (http://www.overclock.net/ati/368105-ati-4850-4870-hard-oc-ready-2.html). but non of them works for me, unfortunately catalyst 8.8 did not recognize my moded graphic card with modified bioses.
also I tried to modify my reference bios in order to give more voltage and GPU clock limits using RBE 1.14. but the situation did not change and catalyst did not recognize my card.
should I fix bios checksum which was described here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=180607) by alexio?
I removed the GPU clock limit using method 2, because non the options of method 1 desired. method 2 have not hash function, are you think that the problem come from removing hash function ?
what is the maximum available GPU voltage ?

My 4850 bios is modded with rbe 1.14 and i am on cat 8.8.All i did was up the vcore to1.158 and the clocks to 630/1000,i did not up the overdrive limit. It is benchable now at 750/1150 using riva tuner 2.10 to oc it,though i run it at 700/1100 using overdrive to oc it.

thank you very much, I do this and my card works well with 1.158 volt, did you try higher voltages ?
I try 1.170volt but the card shows black screan after loading windows.
with 1.158 I can run my GPU stable at 715MHz, do you have similar frequency at this voltage ?

ARH,i was using riva tuner to test mine,it was benchable on 3dmark06 at 750core/1150mem.
I did not try higher voltages,700/1100 is fine for me for 24/7.If i need it to go higher i will just do a hard volt mod :D
