So, I have a 750GB drive. It has a 50GB partition for my OS/programs/games. The rest is my storage partition with files/data/media/downloads etc. The only rooted folder structures from my C: partition to storage partition is My Documents and manually set temporary files folders for some of my programs. This partition is only ~80GB full.

Now, I also have a 640GB drive. I would like to basically mirror drives. I will set up a 50GB partition for C: and the rest for my storage partition. I would obviously have less space in my storage partition compared to the storage partition in my 750GB drive, but that is absolutely fine.

My questions. Will Acronis tell me I can't copy my storage partition because the partition space is too small where I would like to copy? Or will it realize that the partition is large enough for the data and just ignore the empty space? Also, will this mirrored drive function exactly the same as my first drive? No problems with having My Documents and temporary file folders on the storage partition? This information is all stored in the registry and programs themselves, which Acronis will have no problem copying, correct?

Acronis should only be looking at the amount of data on a partition, and not the actual partition size so you should be alright there. I'm not so sure about your second question, as long as you're keeping the same drive structure you shouldn't have any problems. As far as I know (and I've ghosted many a drive), Acronis copies absolutely everything - i.e. it doesn't make any distinction between systems files, programs or regular files. So no, it won't have any problem copying the registry files and programs, and they should all work. Basically, if it works on your current drive, it will work when it's mirrored. Hope that helps :)

I actually figured it out. I used Acronis True Image, which automatically does all the resizing when cloning to a smaller drive. Great piece of software. Easy, flawless, and quick.

Ok so right now I have my system runing just fine on my SSD Raid, it is currently running in Raid 5 config.

My plans are to reset this up as a Raid 0, like it was when I first set everything up but changed my mind and redid everything.

So Image the Raid 5
Re setup the Raid to Raid 0 config
Boot off of the Arconis Recovery disk and select the Image I just made
Restore the Image to the now Raid 0

Sounds like that should work.
I know I have not actually restored from a Arconis image before so just double checking.

Yep, should work fine. Acronis recognizes most RAID controllers, haven't really seen/heard of an issue with that yet.

Great !

It's been backing up just fine, I just haven't done a restore yet.

Wich means your backup is NOT validates ;)

But dont worry...

Acronis works fine with Raid 5 and 10 ;)

I tested both :D

Yeah the validation is what was worrying me :)
