View Full Version : Help! Dual 4870X2s w/ Rampage Formula = No video!!
I just got my dual 4870X2s today and installed them in my PC. My specs are in my signature. My PSU is more than powerful enough to power the system.
I have all the necessary connections on the PSU (dual 8-pin PCI-e, dual 6-pin PCI-e). I got them all hooked up, but there is a problem. When I turn on the PC, it POSTs, and boots into windows.
But there is never any VGA signal, the entire time it is as if the computer were turned off. I have the CF bridge installed (can it be backwards?), and I have tried all four DVI ports -- nothing, nada. No video.
Does anybody know what I can do?? Please help me!
Are you able to see the BIOS splash screen and the loading bar for windows? Or is there no signal wat so ever?
I also own a 4870X2 and it had a compabilty problem with my Ix38Quad GT meaing it would not post.
So I went out and bought the motherboard you're currently having issues with e.g Rampage forumla and it had no problem posting with the 4870X2.
Have you installed latest BIOS? Try with one card and see if it'll post
It has no video signal at all, ever. But it does POST, and boots to windows, I can tell from the hard disk activity. And when I hit the power button, the system shuts down like it does from windows when you go start > shut down.
I am using the 0403 BIOS, I will see if I can update it....
EDIT:
Oh yeah and the fans spin and work fine on both 4870X2s.

I can't see what monitor you have ?
I ask because on some monitors you need to select the source input signal before it will go to digital mode (the 4870 uses digital output). If it's set to analog source then the screen will be black. Usually there is a small button on the front reading source to select between ANALOG/DIGITAL or HDMI etc.
Otherwise try switching the monitor cable to the other output on the card.Or try booting with only one card and see if that helps and if not switch the cards and try again.
No, that is not the problem. I just tested both cards alone, and both of them alone do output a video signal. It's just when I use both of them, there is no video signal. I also tested a single card in both slots, and that works as well.
I can't figure out what's going on here :(
I figured it out. The CF bridge was on backwards the whole time! How annoying. There was no documentation as to how it is connected, and it fits both ways...

There are markings on the back of the bridge, JP1 and JP2...pretty obvious to me, if you know what to look for. Would be nice to ahve that info in manuals though...
Ah, I didn't see that. I have never had a multi GPU setup before.

Yeah, it's not YOUR fault...I mean really...and if you look online, lots of times they say it doesn't matter(I used to as well, but I learned better, and about the labelling, a while ago.)
Blame AMD/ATI for having such craptacular manuals. I mean really...they must be the most horrid things ever. But i guess that's what happens when you are bleeding cash.
