hmm, 412/365 it is, then. Trying to figure out this bit with the "dynamic overclocking" or whatever it is.

tomshardware shows a 3k increase in aquamark over the 9800Pro. Interesting.

Well, €500 is about US$580 using the current exchange rates. But I think a more useful comparison would be between the €499 SRP for the XT and the original €399 for the 9800Pro (128). Since the 9800Pro (128) came out in the US at $399 SRP, I think it's reasonable to expect partiy with Euros, so around $499 SRP for the XT as well.

I spent 2 days borrowing my friends 5900 ultra, to deciede if I wanted to buy a $300 dollar one off another friend...

for 2 days, all I can say, I lost my voice from screaming at my PC :(
one second it was great, 19k at default.
2 minutes later, 12k...
that was vapochill cooled too.
then chilled water and pelt cooled to -30c.
the out of my PC and back to my friend.
I have never used a card so frustratingly annoying.
no matter what I did, I just couldnt get it stable.
the thermal throttling just ruins that card for me.

the 9800 Xt has it too.
scary :(

I hear you Kunaak, my 5900u will crank out a 19k completly stock, then when I pump it up to 515/485 I get three 3k lower! I don't get this card.

the 9800xt has thermal throttling?

I don't know for a fact that it has the same sort of thermal throttling where it has a 2d and 3d speed that it switchs between...

but I know the fan is controlled by a temp sensor that gets faster or slower according to the temps...
hopefully this doesn't mean theres a throttle feature :)

on a Side note, heres a close up of the ram from tomshardware of the Asus 9800 Xt.

can anyone figure the NS of this ram?

how will these cards with hynix 2.2 compare to the cards with the 2.8 sammy chips?

Kunaak

2.2 NS, well...

now I really can't wait to see what people can do with a VMem mod on these :)

There's a picture on TomsHardware of the heatsink quality and it really sucks on the standard card. I could make it better and I have 10 thumbs.

The Asus heatisnk is a much better design and finish IMO. Bet it overclocks better as well.

I'm waiting for a Gainward R420 Golden Sample myself in the spring.

Andy

LOL, is that why you don't have a vidcard listed in your sig? :D

In all seriousness tho, I am considering an XT (I killed my 9800np :( ) but I might wait and see how the performance stacks up... and maybe go for a 9800Pro instead if the price drops, or buy one from someone who is selling to get the XT...

BTW, hynix AFM-25 is 2.5 ns chips not 2.2 ns...

I couldnt help but laf at Kunaak here with his comment, And I feel exactly the same but I've been stuck with this POS since the day I bought it.

I hope the XT dosnt have a thermal throtler, but it sounds kinda like it does just from the review somewhere in the review it said something about the fan speading up as the card got hotter and it wasnt as anoying as the 5900U. We may all be screwed if there is a govener. If there is one the only hope we may have is that some one puts some time and effort into dissabling it.
The 5900U no one seemed it was worth thier time or effort to dissable this feature and it must have been in the drivers cause the last set really cripled the the card.

Only one way to find out.... I just e-mailed ATI :D

To me that sounds like a temp sensing fan rather then throtling.

We need someone here to bench one of these babies and see how the can handle some high oc's. Anyone have one on order?

Kunaak

I'll have one orderd soon.
hopefully after work today.
I need to wait for another 300 to clear, before I spend anymore money, but I am pretty sure I'll have the cash to get one.
I seriously need a good card, and since I have had 7 R9800 Pros, I figures it's time to try something new :)

Dynamic overclocking = thermal throttling? Depends how hot it gets I guess...:p:

Is there any other place selling the 9800xt's besides ww.ati.com yet?
