I current have an X2 (in the mail, here in 1 hour or so) and was wondering, what is a good heat sink that could handle a phenom in the future (deneb)?
I don't want anything loud. I haven't touched air in a while, so I'm a litle lost. Everyone says TRUE, but I know there's cheaper options that are almost as good at half the price.

OCZ VENDETTA-2, Achillies S1284 Version 2 and the s1283 are all near TRUE performance and cheaper.
The Thermalright HR-01 PLUS beats the TRUE when it comes to quiet fans, but its kinda expensive.

Money wise, the s1283 seems like the best idea, price wise, so I'll probably get that. Thank you!

Remember, all those coolers mentioned above can only be mounted one way on most AM2 boards so it will be facing the top of your case

No problem, glad I could help :)
The s1283 seems like the best bang for the buck indeed.
Beware of mounting issues like the above poster said. I dont know much about AM2 compatibility.

I have a rocketfish case. I have about 4" clearance above the mobo.

That's not what they mean. They mean the fan will be blowing towards the top of the case, not towards the rear exhaust fan.

hr-01 mounts differently than the extreme120 might want to consider that if u want (vertical?) positioning

it depends on the board and how the socket is positioned on that board
heres the m2n and m2n32 and they have the sockets oriented differently

i'm running an m2n board and here is how a thermalright ultima 90 mounts (what kite7 meant about heatsink facing top of case)

I already bought the xigmatek s1283, sorry for not updating you guys. My mobo is dead & RMA'ing it, so I am hoping that I'll get to test it when I get a working mobo.
I don't mind it mounting in this manner. Its fine. The case is large enough that it won't overheat. Its only an X2, so not too much heat.
Thanks again guys
