It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. And it's definitly gonna happen this year! Just look at this score:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7058567
yeah JC's rig he built for ace's hardware coupled with a high clocking XT would destroy anything we have now... I am positive we will see atleast 29k before the end of this year

i think when the new bios and such for the A64 mobo's and when better boards come available...30k will be here...

IMHO, I don't think it's going to happen this year.

Personally I thnk 3dmark 2001 is phased out.
Its starting to get very obvious that everyone is just interested in big numbers so the continue benching 2001 to get big numbers...including me :)
Imo the day 2001 reached 25K, it because obselete. 30K is just getting silly imo and its like running Sandra Buffered benchies...offcourse the score gets higher as your systems gets higher
Just my 2 cents :)

Whats holding you back from 15,xxx Geforce4ti4200? ;)
Anyways I wonder if it will be an AMD or Intel chip breaking 30,xxx?

p43.6ee is my favorite :)
Yeah I agree creative... I think people like looking back and seeing the performance increase over time though... I sure many can remember when they struggled to break 10k, 20k etc...

Nah... its because 3dmark03 isnt as cool a bench as 2k1. Almost all vid. Not because we're kiddies who like huge numbers. My 2 pennies.

Hey Creative i agree with you that people got the big numbers to their heads, but you must remember that 2k1 does test the whole system, rather than just GFX.

indeed, 29k seems more likely...
3dmark 2001 has the advantage of not completely depending on your gpu...
It takes more to have that number one grapics card than that one processor (good processors are a bit more common)

I think Mickey summed it up when he said that its just like Super Pi and stuff just with a prettier GUI :D
I agree it benches the whole system and it is still my favrourite benchmark by far....I didnt mean to have a go at anyone if that is how it came across....actually the more I think about it, it seems pretty cool watching the numbers get bigger and bigger....
I wonder how long it will be till 50K is broken

I think if AMD releases some new CPU's in the FX line, a few more motherboard makers come out with better options, the growing number of ram thats ECC may help (cause you can disable the ECC, and use it normally, and the 939 pin probably isn't coming our way anytime soon)
hopefully the 9800 XT proves to be just as good as it's little brother, that would help.
but maybe someone will take a 9800 pro, resolder some fancier ram on there... you get the idea.
some great cooling, dry ice, LN2, full volt mods...
it could go down.
you know, the usual stuff ;)

I'll believe in the 30k.
What we use now are Beta Bios, Rev. 1.0 MB, unoptimized nForce and VIA 4in1 drivers. We've no 64 Bit OS or drivers.
Also there no great knowledge which ram to use (PC4000 CL2 maybe here this year) and i think these guys are still testing the best OS + Cat + Dx combination.

Macci is the 2nd to break 27k anyway for 30k he will need to get the cpu to 3GHz or higher and a 9800xt to 600+ on the core and run high fsb, sync ram at agressive timings. will all that happen in less than 3 months? that means each month 1k more marks must happen

with ati overclocking conteste.. Everything will be possible :)

I just wonder how far it will go until 2k1 gets phased out and isn't the standard ...

Why doesn't everyone start benching at higher resolutions? The 3dmarks will go down back into reasonable #'s.. Not that there's anything wrong with 30k... Higher resolution (minimum of 1280x or 1600x) will certainly give a better comparison of today's video cards.. I mean, who plays games these days at 1024x768 when your using a graphics card that cost 400-500bones and should be able to handle 1280x or 1600x with relatively desent fps if your whole system is good... I wouldn't game at less than 1280 these days.. Besides, picture looks better

you know you are allowed to run 2001 in 1600x1200 anyway but its not considered default res, also it would be too much like 2003 anyway. 1024x768 is the perfect balance of both cpu and gpu. and I hope 2001 doesnt get phased out for at least 4 more years

Four years from now we will be laughing about 30k 3DM06. Might have to set an outlook reminder for 2/20/12 so I can bump this thread then. LOL

Surprisingly, Macci got less fps in Lobby High than me with my 8400GS at 24,600pts in 3dm01 :D
Macci: 185.84fps -- 30951
Me: 218.75fps -- 24678
