In about 5-10 days I will be attempting my first build. I have all my parts picked out except my hard drive. Almost everywhere I look (basicaly Newegg and a few others) I can only find OEM hard drives. From what I understand an OEM hard drive is just the drive itself and thats it. To me thats a problem since this is my first build and I would need cables for the drive.

Could someone suggest me a good site for retail drives or maybe show me a good drive and cable I could use. OEM scares me because or the large number of RMAs I see and also reviews of the drives having problems.

You dont need the cables your motherboard should come with all the cables you need.

if you are referring to SATA cables, your motherboard should come with SATA cables and your power supply should come with the appropriate power cables. Also, presumably your case has appropriate mounting systems for 3.5 inch drives

If you cant find cables you can order them many places. You should have enough free ones just make sure they are long enough.

Well, let's look at what an OEM is.

An original electronic manufacturer's product is one that doesn't come with the accessories shown. A harddrive has no accessories, therefore it is an OEM.

Which one are you looking at buying?

I remember going through he same thing before my first build. I even ordered a bunch of ide and other cables from newegg. Then when I opened the Motherboard I realized that I had wasted about $40.

You're from NJ, so I HAVE to help you (I'm in bergen county).

If you're near west paterson, the Micro Center store there has tons of cables that you can get in a pinch if you need help, lots O' little parts too.

I usually order some el cheapo cables and parts from some of those ebay shlockmeisters that sell stuff cheap, just so I can have spares around for either length, or in case stuff breaks

Whats nice about Newegg (even though they charge me tax.....blah) is that they show pictures of EVERYTHING thats included. They are really good about it.
