hi.

i just bought a 4870X2 and im planning to get a E8600 to put it around 4,2ghz and maybe a new PSU (moduled 1000W corsair) and a SSD OCZ CORE V2.

my system right now is this::

P5N32E-SLI (680I)
E6600 3,2GHZ
4GB OCZ 1066 5-5-5-12
700W OCZ
X-FI XTREMEGAMER
8800GTX- WILL REPLACE FOR 4870X2
RAPTOR 150GB

the question is if i should wait a bit longer and get a Nehalem motherboard with his cpu and dd3 ram or i will be fine for long time just upgrading the components i put..... its for a gamming system.

thank you

I would wait for Nehalem if I were you. Actaully, that's exactly what I'm doing. My rig is similar to yours, but it still kicks ass. I'll wait for Nehalem until the prices stabalize.

Yup, wait for nehalem guys, it might be expensive but I think it will push prizes a bit down , your rigs are good for now.

the only doubt i have its about my CPU-GPU.....

i read that the 3,2ghz i have in the E6600 are not enough for the 4870X2. i already bought the 4870X2.

well i should buy the Penryn to get around 4,2ghz and i will be good to go for some time.

but if the SSD OCZ turns to be good....im dying to get a nice HDD with better performance than my Raptor (i think the Velociraptor its not that much improvement).

am i right about the CPU-GPU thing??

Your cpu should be fine, I havent seen any evidence of a E6600 @ 3.20ghz slowing down 4870X2 @ 1080P or greater, its all about the Gpu at those resolutions.

Can you not get a bit more out of your E6600, I had that chip @ 3.50ghz stable on Asrock P35 with a €15 Akasa 965 and a Yate Loon 120mm case fan placed right above it.

€20 worth of quiet decent case fans positioned right on top of your cpu cooler should give you an extra few hundred mhz imo.

E8600 + 4870X2 + P45 Board and you're set. No need to upgrade.

Don't wait for Nehalem. Because when it launches, you'll be waiting for Nehalem prices to drop. The E8600 is here now and the guaranteed E0 means 4.2 @ 1.3 Vcore which will make you the envy of a lot of people here :D

i think im only going to take the E8600.

i will wait for Nehalem for some time while it slow prices and also get mature (bios, drivers,....).

im still happy with my 680i and the raptor. SSD maybe at the end of the year, but im dying to get a nice SSD for OS and games to run.
about the 680i.... ummm. i dont see that much diference in mother boards yet to upgrade. i even read that the SSD works better in Nvidia motherboards.

No 680i board is PCI-E 2.0 they're all 1.1. I'd wait till Nehalem is out until you even think about upgrading since prices for all current hardware will fall.

So, what affect does that have @ 1080p.

$350 for the sake of 10% performance loss, get real man.

700W OCZ-----------------CORSAIR HX1000W
X-FI XTREMEGAMER
