Need some advise. I have 2 8800gtx's running in sli and was thinking about buy a 280gtx. Here were I get  The card I'm thinking about buying is a open box card from New Egg the cards price is around $360 but I'm :para: about the open box return policy here a link to the policy http://www.newegg.com/HelpInfo/ReturnPolicy.aspx#8
Does this seem like a good deal
I try to game 1900x1200 all the time with a much AA turn on as possible.Am I going to see a big enough return for the money going from my old cards to the new one
When I was looking at bench marks for the 280's I didn't see any that included the 8800gtx's in sli, so if anyone knows of a site that included them. that would be helpful.
TIA :)

The 280 will give a pretty big jump, but so will the 4870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131113 and the GTX 260: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127361 .
Both are better options than gambling with Open Box.

no, a gtx280 or 4870 would not really be much of an upgrade. i would recommend saving up, and getting a 4870x2, that card will play any game out at 1900x1200 with aa, including crysis.

Wait for 4870X2, that will make more sense at 19x12.

Wait for 4870X2, that will make more sense at 19x12.:up:4870 already does everything at 19x12. 4870X2 is for 2560 res.

4870 single won't be faster enough than 2x8800GTX.
4870X2 will, that's why he is buying a new card.:)

I would only buy a new card if you have the upgrade bug and you want to play with some new hardware. Otherwise your 8800GTX's I'm sure are fine. You could always get a 4870 for $193 after rebate. Check the online deals section.

Pardon me if this is a stupid question but will the 4870x2 work on a sli board
And are there going to be any draw backs? If so , what

Sure it will work. You can't use two of them though in crossfire.

I thing you can buy 2 260GTX.........They are more powerfull than 8800GTX SLI and is not so spencive......
280GTX & 9800GX2 RULEZZZZ :D:D:D:D

Seeing how the 9800GX2 trade blows with the GTX280, i think 2x 8800GTX in SLI will be a little faster...
If you want substantial improvement you should get HD4870X2 or GTX260/280 in SLI.

I have the same Dilemma <shrug> I will wait until X-mas and treat myself to a nice 4870 x2 by then they may have a product "refresh" The 8800GTX have had a good run and they are still stonkingly fast ( just not in crisis and not top of the speed tree) Power consumption is a bit of a worry too. Do people still use hardware profiles? when just downloading or surfing you don't need SLI!!

I say just wait--but an HD4870X2 would be your biggest upgrade. There's a link for $470 new (preorder from BB) in the online deals section. The 4870X2 basically always kick the GTX280's arse.

Those cards have at least another year of life left in it, if not 2.

i think your current cards are fine , just hold on more to them for a month or so , expect a 280gx2 may be :o? so its better to wait a bit longer :)

R700 54% faster in crysis at 1900x1200 4xAA/16xAF than a 280. And probably 3 times faster than your 8800gtx's. Differences are even more obvious at 2560 or with 8xAA. upgrade choice should be a no-brainer, espicially after driver updates & considering the bunk nature of Nvidia lately. Basically a x2 runs Very HIGH crysis at 1900x1200 with 4XAA faster than a 280 can run 1900x1200 with noAA

That's only for crysis other games don't show such a marked increase and if they do it's probably well beyond the 60/70 fps mark. The 4870x2 represents great value/performance and probably a good power saving but considering the money spent on the 2 x 8800gtx -they were £300 a year and a half ago and £250 only 6 months ago! ( yes I was robbed ) On the whole though I think you are probably right, I'd probably wait a bit until the 4870 x 2 drops in price

If you can get a good price for them, sell them.Otherwise keep your money.
2 x 8800gtx's in gameplay terms, smoothness, enjoyment, playable settings etc ( not performance numbers ) is equal too a single stock clock GTX 260.I had 2 x 8800gtx's not long ago and sold them over the space of 6 months to get an evga GTX 260, I find the Gtx 260 to be a good bit better, I can play at roughly the same settings as I did with the Gtx's in Sli but everything is so smooth now.
I sold the 8800 Gtx's for €70 more than what I payed for the Gtx 260, if you can do the same do it.I reckon you could get £100 each for them, which would go a long way for a £290 HD4870x2.
HD4870X2 £290
