Hi.

First of all, sorry for my bad english.

After the last weeks discussion of the nForce 790i chipset, and some motherboard makers has pulled their 790i motherboards of the market. Is XFX going to react on this?

I heard a lot of talking about data corruption, and periodic frezees. Which worries me a bit, since i have experienced a lot of unprovoked crashes lately.

I backed of my overclock, to make sure that wasnt the issue. I have removed all add-in PCI cards from the machine, except my 8800 GTS.

The problem is that all of a sudden my computer just hangs, and any sound played at the momeht will loop the same 2 seconds of playback. Im suspecting some of the data corruption rumors for making these crashes.

I do have the latest 06 BIOS installed on my XFX 790i board, but it still happens.

Are there anyone else experiencing weird issues with their not so cheap motherboards?

EDIT: And also, are anyone else experiencing issues with Creative X-Fi sound cars on their 790i motherboards? I just cant get mine to work as intended.. The drivers install fine, and the sound works. But the creative software does not recognize the sound card as a X-Fi, and therefore i cant change any sound settings.

I haven't heard anything about our 790i going end of life. The 790i usually runs very well as long as the memory used with it is tested with a 790i. What memory are you using and at what timings/voltage?

Im running with 4 sticks of memory.

2 x 1 GB OCZ Gold 1333 MHz 8-8-8-22 1.5 V

2 x 1 Corsair XMS3 DHX 1333 MHz 8-8-8-22 1.5 V

I have run Memtest on them, and got 25 passes with no errors.

I have also run OCCT for 4 hours with no problems detected.

Is the bios very easily corrupted? My first 790i was DOA no-post, long replacement time from buy.com. The replacement was running very well until Sunday night. I rebooted after a software install and was greeted by post code 5d and no video signal. All attempt to recover are unsuccessful including long battery out cmos clear, swapping vid cards and pci-e slots, changing cpu's, ram, and psu. Does XFX offer pre-flashed replacement bios chips?

What else is in your system? Video card, peripherals, power supply?

Are you able to try another power supply? Running those numbers in my head comes up a little close with all of those 12v devices. Are you running the latest XFi drivers?

I dont have the possibility to try another power supply. But i can try and disconnect some fans and a bunch of harddrives.

Yes im running with the latest X-Fi drivers. But I finally got a answer on my mail to Creative support, that gave me a detailed guide on how to completelty remove their drivers, and reinstall them. Which should fix the issue. Havent tried it yet though, im off to work in a few mintues.

Heh wow, I didn't think you could run all that on a 600w power supply. I got my 600w power supply used for $10.00. I've got 6 fans, pump for water cooling, Geforce 260 vid card, Soundblaster Audigy 2z, 2 laser beam spot lights on the front tower, and a crab mem cooler with LEDs. I was worried I didn't have enough power.

I have to say, I love this board. This is a great board overclocking. IMO, its the same thing as the EVGA board. I also feel its better than the Asus Striker II Extreme. I added water cooling to this board and I'm impressed that my Storm block actually fit. Bravo. It's pretty easy to push your FSB to over 500, which is sooo sweet. I've only come across some minor insignficant issues that should be cleared up through drivers or bios update. Nothing to really hinder my overclocking. IMO, its no different than any other top rated mobo.

Never got the time to try and disconnect some of my harddrives and fans. But instead i bought 2 x 9800 GTX+ and smacked in, still with my 620W Power supply, and it runs fine. Havent had a crash in a game for a long time.

But i still get some weird freezes in windows now and then.

With the mixed kits of memory, have you tried increase the voltage to like 1.7 and maybe increasing the timings up to 9-9-9-24 2T?

They are probably just having people run Driver Sweeper from http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655 in safe mode. I found this guide when I googles creative driver remover and they have a manual removal walkthrough but they also say use Driver Sweeper, http://nomoregoatsoup.wordpress.com/2007/09/12/how-to-fully-uninstall-creative-vista-drivers-solve-install-problems.

Sorry, the mail from Creative is in danish, so it wouldnt do you much good im afraid.

No i havent tried going as far as 1.7, but i have tried 1.6 V, with no difference. Still periodic freezes.

Just a follow up to my first post in this thread. I really do think the bios is easily corrupted. When I first got the 790i it was a no post 'doa' but I knew it wasn't really dead. I'm certain a bios chip would have had it working in 2 minutes. Since it was new I didn't even look into it at the time, I simply got a replacement from the vendor. The new one I got back is an awesome board. One of the best overclockers I've ever played with. It's ram fussy. Won't run a very nice pair of ocz pc3-1600 flex-xlc cl6 without severe hdd corruption. I tried tons of timing/voltage combinations, some suggested by Ryder and others at ocz, none worked well. Ran lots of memtest on them and that confirmed to me that the ref 790i just doesn't like those sticks. They'd error randomly or sometimes not all all. OCZ offered to rma for a new kit but I declined since they really rock in my ga-x48t. Can run 2100 with some fairly decent timings error free. Anyway the xfx loves a pair gskill hz that I have so it's all good. I used to run a lot of dfi nf2-3-4 boards so I'm not unfamiliar with corrupted bios since those were the kings. This past time when I got the no post 5d error I replaced the chip with a preflashed one and it took right off, good stuff. I also hotflashed the corrupted one that was in it so I can have a spare. Now I'm ready to try pushing it a little more with some better cooling. If everything works out as I hope, I'll have a fairly decent mini-cascade here in a week or 2, and also a couple different cpus to try, an e8600 and a yorky qx. I'm curious about 1 thing though. I see a lot of companies issuing bios' for E0 compatibility. Are these cpus going to work on the 790i without an update?

Trouth is that with 790i or any nv chipset you need sli ready memory. If you don't have that the less that happens is great unstability and you will have a lot of crashes
