Are there any alternatives to the HR-05 that offers good performance yet low cost?

all of the good chipset coolers are around the same price...enzotech, tr, and others, heatpipe coolers perform the best, forged copper from enzotech are next after that

Balls....any comparison between the stock DFI cooling versus an aftermarket solution in general?

which board are we referring to, because some of the higher end DFI boards are already using thermalright hardware

I realize that but I too poor for their high-end boards...so it's the DK P45 T2RS for me :)

other then maybe the southbridge cooler, i actually wouldnt change the heatsinks on that board if it was me, their pretty decent as is, what i would do is just remount them with good thermal paste.

I'm with spawne, it's already got a cooler that's essentially the same as thermalright just add a fan if temps are getting high.

Any 80x15mm or 80x25 mm fan should work, and as he said change the southbridge. It's way to small to dissipate much, or just add another small fan there aswell.

Added another 40mm fan to my purchase list...this should take care of the heat...SB's don't produce as much heat compared to NB.
