On the C2D system, my Ultima-90 is rather loose, it writhes around like a girl from the red light district, when it is screwed down. I am using the stock 775 mounting kit.

Now, I'm not completely uninformed here, looking around for different mounting kits. I've found this one so far, it includes a backplate, some screws and the actual plate that goes over the base. It only explicitly shows support for four heatpipe models, not ones with six. However, I am wondering if it still works and would provide the pressure needed to secure it properly. It looks as though it gives enough clearance.

Said mounting kit: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/lgboforulula.html

Thanks for putting up with my wordy post. :p:

And like a girl in the red light district, she hurts performance. This has been a long known issue with the TRUE as well. I've heard that it's possible to use the old Ultra 120 clamp that you linked to with the TRUE/Ultima-90 for better pressure. A cheaper option would be to use a washer under the scissor clamp.

I would use the washer method, but my kit included the thin metal bar with a screw on either end. I prefer the more professional looking solution, anyway.

Thanks for your reply. I'll order that kit tomorrow and hope it works. :)

i dont think that kit will work. i tried this am2 version for mine and it did not fit thru the heatpipes

add a washer to the screw above the spring. i did that with mine originally and it did help a lil. i then replaced the stock screws with regular #6-32 screws allowing me to tighten the screws more and compress the spring more which applies more pressure.
heres a post i made a few months ago showing results when i changed the screws http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3046374&postcount=660

You chaps reckon I'll have better luck with this? http://www.acousticpc.com/thermalright_x_type_easy_instal_bolt_through_kit_f or_ultra_ultra120_and_ulitima_cpu_heatsinks.html

My solution was to use a few thin pieces of pre-compressed cardboard.

It's low tech, but solves the problem beautifully. A few mm's will do the trick. (1-2).

Yes but if anything it would be even looser than the original horizontal bar. The bar at least has bends that hold the edge of the heatsink base, no?

Your first idea won't work with 6 heatpipes, it's just too wide. Believe me and others, there's no possible angle. You can bend it, but you'll ruin the shiny finish.

Just an update for you guys, I did the cardboard trick using three thin white pieces and got a 2-3c drop from it. Maybe add some more later, as it's still slightly movable. I would still like to order the scissor mounting kit, since it includes some better screws and a nicer bracket.

Thanks for your help so far.
