I decided to try some with my vertical draft heatpipe cooler. normally most people orinent the fans so it blows down as far as I know. So I decided to try sucking the air through the cooler and have it blowing up and my temps have dropped 15*C @ 100% load, from 93*C down to 77-78*C.

93C ouch that is hot, how is the overall air flow in your case ?

Case? the processor is an old opteron runs fine that hot, the point being that by pulling the air up through the heatsink, drawing the cooler air from the bottom near the proc, cools better. than pushing the hot air from the hs toward the processor.

What cooler is it? I have the TT Mini Typhoon.

I'm not sure what it is It came with a board and processor I got from SS. But if you don't mind trying it out to verify my findings..............

It was stupid the way I found this out. Being inheriently lazy I thought I'll flip the fan over to pull the dust out of the cooler(it wasn't bad and I've keeping tabs on the temps anyway, they had stayed pretty stabile since I put this machine online. No it didn't get the dust out had to clean it any way, But the temps are lower than when I first put the machine online............

so I did flip the fan a couple more times to be sure...........

Yeah, fans tend to work better sucking through a heatsink than pushing air into them.

15c's is a bit much so maybe there was something else not helping the situation as well?

I think it's mainly that this mobo is sitting horizontal and not vertical, so with the fan blowing through the heat sink it was blowing the hotter air across the cpu and not getting rid of all the heat, kind of recycling it.

Also discovered that this works better on my V2 on my 8800gt, temps were 2-4C better.
