Which is better?
IFX-14 with 2x Delta PFB's rated at 220CFM
or
Swiftech H2O-220-Compact
I am using a B3 stepping Q6600 and will be running it on a DFI Lanparty LT-X48-T2R
Thanks in advance

Watercooling would probably win, concerning the CPU-cooling only. But you'll have to keep in mind that you'll still need fans for case ventilation and some on the rad. That's why I don't see any need for watercooling in my case. Besides I don't like the idea of water flowing right next to electrical circuits.
The IFX would most likely lead to far better temperatures on the CPU-voltage-regulation and the whole socket area, compared to watercooling.
BUT, why would you ever want to use an IFX with 220CFM delta fans. This thing is so huge for a reason. It was designed with slow to mid-speed fans in mind. Those deltas won't improve your temps by much. It's just no use in buying them for this particular heatsink. Some nice 120-140mm yate loons or something like that and you'll have enough performance and can still keep your hearing, while having the fans running at the full 12V.
But that's just my opinion. If you think that you need the deltas, go ahead and buy them anyway. It's overkill, but it sure would work. :D

i agree. i think that 1 220cfm 64dba delta would be more than enough to cool the heatsink and make you deaf, dont see a reason to have 2 of them.
i know that i can't really compare my rig to yours someone1029 but with my ultima 90 and 92mm panaflo under 50cfm and i've never seen over 45C load even at higher OC's for bench runs

I have a IFX-14 with a Sycthe 3000RPM and I have a Delta 220CFM just waiting to go in :P My temps are amazing.
Also here are some temps from Toms Hardware and thats the IFX-14 with a low-medium RPM fan.

And heres the gains from using a high RPM fan.

BTW my temps are lower then that in Toms Hardware's thingy.
Bottomline the IFX-14 with delta would be better then the water cooling (in my option).

About 70 DB, but deaf gamers can dig it.

Thanks for all the replies. I completely forgot about that tom's hardware review, I remember reading it when they first came out. Noise isn't a big issue for me really so the deltas are fine with me. Considering that most of you have said that the IFX-14 will be better there is no point spending the extra $60 on the WC unit.
@fatguy1992: good to know you are getting good temps. What temps were you hitting with that 4.1GHz oc, and was it stable? Also, what temps are you getting for your 24/7 OC?

Well I couldn't run prime 95 @ 4.1GHz, I might have been able to make it stable, but I was to scared to put that may volts in.
For 24/7 I use my Q6600 @ 3.0GHz W/ 1.128vcore :D and the temps are on average 30, 26, 25, 27 and load is like 42, 38, 35, 37. Thats on average, cause early morning is like 8C to 10C lower.

BTW my idle temps at 4.1GHz are 42, 37, 34, 37, but that was in the mid-morning.

They are good temps indeed (must be all that airflow from your case!!). Im really looking forward to this heatsink now!

Yeah, 17C on the first core and my computer had been running for 30min or so when I looked at my temps.

was that outside in the middle of winter? what was the ambient temp cause your cpu can't run lower than ambient on air or water (unless its chilled water)

Nah it is inside and yes it is winter here :)
My room temp was about 7C maybe 5C.

Seriously? That's like 10F above freezing. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me :P Rather have my watercooling at ambient than freeze!
The IFX is a hassle because it's so large, but probably less than watercooling. Temps of your other parts due to the side affects of air cooling could be better, but that depends where you put the Rad. Watercooling should perform better, but it all comes down to personal preference such as price and how much time you want to spend.

I'm guessing he's in either Sydney or Canbera. If I'm right that is pretty much normal for this time of year. I was in Sydney recently and it often reached -2c or less in the evening/morning. And really, who cares, so long as you get those extra MHz out of your rig eh?
I have decided to go with the IFX-14 as a temporary solution until I can build a nice water cooling setup. I know its not the right section, but, how would 2x Black Ice GT Stealth X-Flows sandwiching my Deltas perform? I checked the model of those Deltas and they are the TFB version, still rated at 220cfm and 65db.

coldest time of the year in brisvegas right now. 3C last night or thereabouts, outside that is. if it gets any colder ill start believing global cooling advocates...
